Quite simply: what happened between last offseason and this season to make Tomlinson almost irrelevant this season?

Look over the years.. Everytime the Pats beatdown a team.. that never seems to be the same.. Look at the Rams 01 .. Steelers 04 .. etc.. Must be a mind phuc as well from Belli:rocker:

LT has been labeled. Defences know what to do against him now in 07

What I most surprised about is his reputation as 'soft spoken'...that is not accurate in any way. He is a pouting cry baby that is one of many RB who have been stars for a few years and then faded away.

On top of that-Norv Turner's in-game management skills are poor.

In '00 when his Skins were playing Dallas, he called like 48 pass plays-and this DESPITE Dallas having a poor D-line.

Except for the fact that the Steelers won the Super Bowl in 2005...

Um, the Steelers won the super bowl in '05. The Colts won a super bowl after two playoff beatdowns.

After three games, it's way too early to tell anything about any player or team. They need another 7 games before a teams character is known. That being said I hope he get his 'class' kicked all season!

I don't know if its so much LTs fault as it maybe the underachieving offensive line which has not done anything to open holes if you watch the LOS with the Chargers on offense.

What I find interesting as how he was Mister Class for so long..and when there is any adversity...his real self comes out..totally classless what he has done SINCE the Pats win last year...what a loser...

Well, I see a couple possibilities:

1) LT is past his prime
2) Some combination of poor performance by Chargers offense and extra attention from opposing defenses

I'm inclined to think it's #2. Even in the Pats game, he was looking pretty dynamic and capable of breaking out on many plays. As an individual, he doesn't look too far off from last year, in my opinion.

Highlights from the GB game made the Packers defense look pretty good against the O-line. He was getting swarmed almost immediately after the handoff, and the D was getting deep into the backfield before he could get going. Someone on ESPN noted that it was impressive that he had any yardage at all on some of those plays, since he had to avoid 3-4 defenders just to get to the line of scrimmage.

I just think the Chargers' O-line and blocking TEs/backs look like crap supporting the run so far.

I think it's a combination of three things.

Year Rushes Catches Total
2001 339 59 398
2002 372 79 451
2003 313 100 413
2004 339 53 392
2005 339 51 390
2006 348 56 404

6 year average of 408 touches in this league is going to wear you down a bit.

Playing Chicago, NE and GB is going to keep any back down. GB's defense is much improved.

Third, with that passing attack everybody is going to stack the line. Gates is having a monster year because teams are going to take LT out at all costs. Until they get a vertical game it's going to be this same every week.

Good news for LT he should do something against KC.

Last year vs the Chiefs.

@KC 15 Rushes for 66 yards and 6 catches for 72 yards.
Home 25 Rushes for 199 yards 1 Catch for 5 yards.

171 yards per game combined.

If he lays an egg this game it's going to be a long season for him.

And..................if you thought he was whining before....

Answer to the question:

O-line and play calling.

Comment:

It's absolutely bizarre how you all can call him classless, whiny, etc., because he stood up to your team when your team was behaving abominably.

If you can't see that, you're delusional. Heck, your god-hero BB got it!

I would have been hugely disappointed if he hadn't stood up for his team. Remember when TO mocked the Cowboy's star? I loved the lineman who took him out.

Didn't you?

And the "LdT" is silly and immature. They are his initials. The guy who had them before said he's happy to have the new LT have the same initials, for the way he plays and carries himself. But YOU know better? Please. It says much more about you than it does about LT.

Maybe training camp has some value after all?

"Practice? We're talking 'bout PRACTICE!" - Alan Iverson :D

the problem w/LT is NORV (mr predictable) TURNER

for 3 weeks, every time a defense would expect LT to get the ball (1st and 10, 2nd or 3rd and short) LT has gotten the ball. Makes it pretty easy to shut down a runner when u know he's getting the ball. How quick can u kill a teams spirit Norv.

At least Marty (worst playoff coach ever) Shotmyownfoot could be a creative play caller in the regular season. this allowed LT to flourish.

Further, it seems to me that San Diego had a very successful 14-2 season last year because young mr rivers wasnt asked to do much. This season the throws are up, the picks are up, and the chargers are down. say hello to norv turner football

I loved when Teague smacked TO but here's the difference.

Merriman said he was going to smack Tom Brady in the mouth.
Florence said don't look shocked we just kicked your @sses.
Phillips said that was an @ss-whoopin.
Marty said their run is over.

Then in the game,

EVERY Chargers enters the stadium with a WWF performance when announced.
Merriman does his stupid dance on a knock down, not even a sack.
Florence takes that stupid penalty on Graham and is talking smack.
Cromatie talks smack after knocking down a pass.

And on and on and on.....

Then LT cried when Hobbs does the Merriman dance and says we would never disrespect a team like that.

What did they do when they beat the Patriots in 05? The rally with Merriman? Pregame introductions? During the game taunting?

The Chargers like to be bullies and they got mad when somebody wouldn't take their crap and smacked them back in the mouth.

The truth is LT is a bad loser and I used to be a fan before all of his crying but now we are seeing what he's made of. I love the 2.4\carry and I hope it continues even though I have a feeling they'll improve.

BTW loved them going in at halftime saying "We have them right where we want them."

That team needs to grow up, here's to hoping they never do.
