It has been my observation that BB generally does not loosen up the reigns on offense and defense right out of the gate to start a season.

Our best seasons were all about building momentum and taking that momentum into the playoffs. We have never really peaked before November in our Superbowl seasons.

I would say that we are finding out quickly how good Randy Moss still is but its not like Brady is getting the green light to bomb it down field 3 or 4 times a game. In 3 games he went deep twice and connected to Moss on both.

We have not run a trick play. Hardly used play-action at all. Basically, its been our basic offense with an unusually high rate of success.

We have not blitzed on defense the way we know we can. Sure, we go after the QB but not on every defensive series. I know Adalius and Colvin are ready to go balistic, but there has been a definate restraint on sending them.

In my opinion here, I think BB is still holding the reigns in a tad and has only momentarily let the team go in a high octane test drive.

Thats what should scare the rest of the NFL right now. I honestly think we have not really found out how good this team is.

I must say I am shocked how quickly the passing game has developed. LAst season it took about 6-8 weeks. They are in midseason form now. I jsut hope they don't peak too early, but I don't think so. Every BB team has improved over the course of the season.

Adversity is a good thing. And sure it would be great to blow out every team this season, but it's realistically not gonna happen. I'd like to see some tough games over the course of the season to prepare them for the playoffs.

This team reminds me of the 80's niners where they lose to the giants and had something to prove. Think I have the right team that was illustrated on America's game. They appear to have something to prove the entire season whether it be becuase of the Colts loss, Moss's rsurgence, Marquise Hill, Rodney and HGH, or the video taping thing.

I think it's all business to them this season and there is a collective frame of mind to get that ring.

If any reigns are on the defense, they'll be taken off against the Bengals.

To quote my friend Asjad, a Chargers fan " The Patriots just hung 38 on one of the best defenses [Chargers] without BB going all out. Oh yeah and they held us [the Chargers] to 14 points without Seymour and Harrison. I'll buy you and AFC champs shirt now."

A king or a queen (or a team) reigns. Reign is a verb. You can not hold the reigns.

You hold the reins, or let go of the reins.

Come on people

You forgot to put a period on the end of your last sentence.

Come on PFIV, its OK. We're football junkies, not english majors.

We have not run a trick play.

I've been tempted to start a thread on this topic! We've certainly mixed up formations plenty, but nothing too eye-catching. Maybe that shows that Charlie Weis really has left the building; maybe it just reflects the fact that the basics are working so well. But even so, I'm a little surprised they haven't tossed in a few gimmicks just to give future opponents something extra to sweat about.

Nice to contemplate that there's still plenty of hole cards waiting!

While we're at it, a number of years ago, the US Postal Service officially changed all state designations; therefore, you are, in fact, PatsFanInVA

Also, please note that I did not harrass you for the capitalization of the letter i in your username, even though a preposition with fewer than five letters should not be capitalized when writing a tiltle.

I couldn't resist. :D

A way this season could go awry

We have never really peaked before November in our Superbowl seasons.

Yeah, but in 2002 we peaked in September, so we have to be a little careful. If this year goes awry (which is unlikely) it will be that in Week 4, the NFL suddenly realizes they can pass on our defense, similar to the 2002 revelation about our run defense.
