Welker. Moss. Gaffney. Stallworth. Washington. Watson. Kyle Brady.

There aren't enough balls to go around.

Do we finally say our fond farewell to old #80?

If so, he has served us like an absolute champ and deserves whatever he wants at his exit interview. Coaching job. Retired #. Lifetime eparking spot. Whatever!

As far as Jackson, he just could never stay out of the tub long enough to show us what he had. My guess is he goes on IR and we see where we are with Moss next season.

Tough decission.

Glad I don't have to make it. I fear that Brown will go, or something to that effect.

Yikes right?

Re: What becomes of Chad Jackson & Troy Borwn?

Assuming our WR corpse (sic) remains healthy, Brown onto IR so he 'get's paid'.
CJ is problematical. I think the Pats would like to IR him since he missed yet another training camp and will not be ready for prime time but his agent has sent signals that they will fight IR. Maybe Washington gets cut or it's always possible to cut another position and keep another WR (too many in my opinion). I really don't know what will happen here.

Why so negative on Jackson ? He's not gone. He'll either be IRed, maybe replace Gaffney or possibly a #6 WR. Troy is kind of extra for sure but I think they'll find a spot for him instead of someone like Chad Brown.

Re: What becomes of Chad Jackson & Troy Borwn?

Last I looked, there are 13 games left in the regular season. If this is the only issue related to these two players, then the team is very fortunate.

Things change in a heartbeat. Here's hoping the current status quo exists through the playoffs.

Re: What becomes of Chad Jackson & Troy Borwn?

I think Washington gets cut when Brown/Jackson come off the PUP list. Jackson will replace Stallworth next year assuming they resign Moss.

Could be but Washington also helps on special teams which is important. If Jackson is activated I think there's a decent chance it's in place of Gaffney not Washington.

I don't believe that for a second.

No way. Gaffney has earned his keep for this year. He's been an incredible overachiever and there's no way he gets cut now. I do think Jackson will benefit from having all these receivers around him and could actually be productive.

I think they'll IR Jackson - but if it comes down to Washington or Gaffney I think it's close - Gaffney isn't playing a lot and doesn't help on ST.

Where did you hear that Jacksons agent might fight the teams possible IR decision?

There was some (completely unsubstantiated) rumor about that in training camp. It may be true - or it may not, I'd guess not.

If Jackson is healthy, he would have a right to be upset. He's trying to develop as a serious WR and the best way to do it is to get some playing time, or to be cut or traded so another team can give him a chance.

Right now, he can't even practice with the team and the situation would be the same if he went on IR.

I don't know the rules in this area, not sure if he would have a grievance under the CBA if he was IR'd while healthy.

As the only other WR signed beyond this year, I have to think the Patriots will do something with him. Exactly what they do will likely be tied to the contract situation with the other WRs.

In other words, if you're looking for an extension for Moss or Gaffney, or a change in the terms of Stallworth's rather large option bonus (or whatever it's called), look for it between the 6th and 9th weeks of the season.

Not sure at what week the rules say you can no longer sign contracts or make trades, anyone know?

Re: What becomes of Chad Jackson & Troy Borwn?

you can always sign contract but no trades after week 6

I'd want Jackson on the team even if it's just for a few plays a game where you can take advantage of his speed alongside Moss and Stallworth.

What's wrong with carrying 6 WRs? I doubt we're carrying 3 QBs all season, so there's one spot, and unfortunately, there's always injuries, so it seems premature to be worrying about roster spots in relation to the PUP players at this point.

TOTALLY AGREE. Not sure why Gaffney gets the Binky treatment around here, and I've been a big defender of his. Given the choice between him and Washington, I pick Washington for S/T's and upside.

I wonder if the Pats would make a wink-wink-nudge-nudge deal with CJ and his agent - a promise for an extension (of one year) if they go quietly to the IR.

Because he is a high 2nd rounder who is always hurt and never plays. Quick, someone post that picture of him in highschool with all the sweatbands tinted visor and all the other things that make him LOOK like a beast.

He isn't "always" hurt. He's been ready to play but the Pats have taken it slow with him because of their relative depth at WR. Take it easy.

MY GUESS

Troy Brown will be put on IR, so that he can be part of this SB season.

Chad Jackson will be activated, and we will keep 6 wide receivers. We can't put him on IR. He'd fine, and win, a grievance. We could cut him, as some media suggested earlier this year. However, I think that we already made the decision to keep him through next year's camp. After all, he is a great prospect. The cost to keep him another year is negligible.

There is no reason to cut on of our productive receivers (that's all of them) to activate Jackson.
