We were playing this well in 2002, when we were on fire on offense.. I know our defense sucked back then, but are we showing too much too soon???

I don't believe that such a thing even exists and i've never understood what "peaking too early" means.

No offense.

I think we will be fine and continue to destroy teams:D
one game at a time. let the bloodbath continue.

I was just concerned that we are giving teams, too much to look at too soon..

Who says we're peaking? What if we're still not playing up to our potential? What if we get even better?

If this team is scary good now, what will they be if they get better?

I think that's what people mean when they say "scary". We still haven't seen all that this team is capable of. Sey and Rodney still haven't played a snap. O line injuries have been minimized by great depth and the same can be said of the defense. There are too many level headed vets on this team, IMO, to fall into the trap of peaking too early. I consider that situation to more likely befall a younger team that plays over their level.
Just my 2cents.

What makes you think this is the peak? Rodney comes back in two weeks, RS and TB can come back after week six. This team is very good, but I don't think they have peaked.

Actually, in 2002, game 3 was the beginning of the end.

The Pats won that day, just barely, but the defense was completely exposed for the running game sieve that it was.

I saw nothing yesterday that could give opposing coaches any hint as to what the 2007 Pats weaknesses are (except maybe the punter).

Rodney will be back next Tuesday bright and early with bells and whistles .. :singing:

100% correct. Game 3 was a shootout and we escaped with a win. That was the game where I said it seems like we have serious problems on D.

What if we're showing them what we have and we still win because our players are better? (Also, I think we have much more to show on offense, but as long as this keeps working, I think we go with it).

I wouldn't call yesterday's game perfect execution by any means. The first 20 minutes were sloppy - we are capable of doing better.

This team will get lots better by November.

What are we supposed to hold back and lose games? They are playing well , not showing to much. Honestly they played kinda sloppy yesterday.

"Peaking too early" is a nice way of saying you couldn't keep your focus for the whole season.

Another sports saying that makes no sense. I got a question for you, say we are "peaking too soon". What exactly is the remedy? Only let Brady throw with his left hand? Moss isnt allowed to run only walk? How exactly do you stop from peaking too early?

I'm not 100% sure of the stats, but I believe our Red-Zone defense is last in the NFL. I believe in 5 trips within our 20, opposing teams have scored 5 out of 5 times and all for TD's. This is a very un-Patriot like statistic, so I believe there is plenty room for improvement. I recognize that some of this is when we are ahead and are simply trying to run down the clock, but I have been disappointed with our inability to stop them within our 20. In years past, this was often our single greatest strength on this team. ;) Gotta nitpick somewhere

Absolutely but I have to believe that the 5 opportunities in three games must be a league low so from that perspective, it's a positive.
At least it gives BB something to improve on......

There are always things to improve on...as was mentioned besides red zone D...and 20 min of sloppy play...this team WILL get MUCH better!!!

I think the playbook is much much thicker than weve seen yet. Think about all the possible situations we have yet to find ourselves in...like trailing in the second half.

Nah...theres much more to come.

I think the thinking is that by playing this well this early that eventually you're going to run into teams that either have success stopping the Pats offense or success scoring on the defense.

When/if that happens, opposing teams will have a "template" they can use whether it's personnel or schemes or whatever.

If, on the other hand, the pats went throught this super hot stretch at the very end of the season, there would be very little film/study that teams could do to figure out how to counter the pats.

I'm very interested to see how the Pats D fares against the Bengals O. I think the Pats will win overall because the matchup on the other side of the ball appears so one-sided, but it will be good to see the pats go up against a top unit on one side of the ball as it looks like the chargers aren't turning out to be the level of competition everyone thought they'd be.
