Ok, cameragate is over with and I was just having one of those deep thoughts....I don't think I can be accused of being a homer by saying this but the Patriots O looks incredible this year and it's pretty obvious that Bill has created a beast which leads to the question....could BB stop the Pats Offensive line this year?

He's been known as a Defensive genius but did he create a monster that even the creator couldn't contain?

No need to go into details on how you think he'd do it....I'm sure the other 31 teams in the NFL would gladly be open to suggestions this season and have representatives trolling these boards.;)

He couldn't stop it, but I'd guess he wouldn't give up 38 to it either.

This question hurt my mind. :(

If McDaniels is the OC, yes.

Irresistible object versus the unstoppable force. A question that has plagued philosophers for, literally, millennia. Naturally, Belichick already knows the answer.

1. Not with the current defense.
2. With Seymour and Rodney, maybe.
3. Best guess: He could stop it with Brady under center, but not in the shotgun.
4. I'd like him to prove he can stop Indy's offense first.
5. All of the above.

Is this like those old SNL bits with the Bears fans?

"Who would win....Belichick or a hurricane?"

(all) "Belichick!"

"But what if it was hurricane *Belichick*?"

(all) "Ahhhhh...."

:D

Yes. If he had the right defensive players. Otherwise, no.

Only if he had 11 mini-Ditkas.

Of course. He beat the Colts Offense for all but the last couple of times. Now he has an Offense that is fully the equal of the Colts awesome Offense.

But Indy does not have any way shape or form, an even pale imitation, of his Pat's Defense, that after playing two 2006 playoff clubs, is still rated as the Number 1 Defense.

I am waiting a little while but this Team would give the '85 Bears a tussle. And the Pats would probably even be the favorite on the Vegas line.

The mighty Bears had an awesome Defense but the Pats, even with out without Seymour, the equivalent to Dan Hampton, are on schedule to have 64 sacks. The secondary gets lots of INTs and new this year so are the LB corps. They match up position by position with that Bears club on Defense.

This team's Offense is head and shoulders better at QB, WR, TE and perhaps OL and OL depth, whereas although they have good RBs, that Bears club had "sweetness".

Lawdy, that is a dramatic concept !

I sure remember THEM guys.

I have to admit the question's a bit vague. Stop them by himself? Would he get a weapon? If he had a defense? Any defense? All century team? Curent Patriots defense? I'd have to give you a strong maybe.

BB hasn't stopped the Colts in a while ... I don't think he could stop this offense with our defense. I don't think anybody can.

Well, maybe we are looking at the question wrong...
Statistically we are surrendering less yards on defense than anyone.
Damn good in Run defense also.
Meanwhile our offense is getting the second most yards of production.
So statistically the defense IS outperforming the offense already.
(But I suspect we have played very conservatively and not up to potential yet).
Today I was also speculating that Troy Brown will take Washingtons place on the roster (If status quo remains(it won't)).
I can't imagine how anyone could defend against Moss,Welker and T Brown at the same time and still not give up massive yardage to a run play...:p

Didn't people say the same about Holt, Bruce, Proehl, Az-Hakim and Marshall Faulk though the personnel BB had on D at the time was less stellar than the one he has now provided we're assuming Seymour and Harrison are both dressed in this hypothetical game?

This is an obvious quesiton... BB can stop ANYTHING! :D

Well - yes... but then again he does have access to the Offensive playcalling does he not?

I voted Yes. A defensive genius like BB would figure out how to slow down this Pats offense. Unlikely he can shut them down on scoring points, but like his 1990 Giants and 2001 Pats defenses - could slow down the juggernaught offense just long enough to win the game.

In this case since he created it, there is no question in my mind, he knows what the weaknesses are.

1. The main reason BB couldn't stop Indy the last couple times WAS OUR OWN OFFENSE. Its been shown by titans and others that the best way to beat Indy is to have long controlled drives with the ball. Keep them off the field but still be productive and put points on the board yourself. we couldn't run the ball well enough last year to keep the chains/clocks moving. that killed us.

2. Since the 2nd SB win and Indy's complaints to the commish they changed the point of emphasis on 5 yard chuckign and wr interference penalties etc etc. The nfl opened up the game more. Until the pendulum swings in the other direction at LEAGUE LEVEL; BB wont be able to stop an offense like Indy. Only contain and match them as I said in point 1.

.....If you contain them early on and get a couple of breaks you can still get an early lead and then make it look like a blow out. But it is just as likely to go the other way and be a shootout. As long as the league is mandating that you have to play flag football with the wrs it will be an offensive dominated league for the most part.
