Well if you remember correctly, the Dolphins didn't have a choice. They could've placed a higher tender but because he was a restricted free agent, any one willing to part ways with their 2nd pick could've had Welker. When the Pats realized how much they would have to pay lil Wessy and the Fins realized they could get more, the teams agreed on not only a 2nd round pick, but also a 7th. It wasn't really a trade but a restricted FA signing.

The Dolphins DID have a choice. They could have signed him PRIOR to his becoming a free agent.

140/8 = 17.5 seasons. I'm not sure if the 140 includes preseason or playoff games but even if you put it at 12 home games per/season that's still over 11 seasons worth of home games so your premise that they just became popular since 2001 is incorrect. If they haven't sold out every game in the Kraft era it's at least 99%.

I suspect that may have to do with being a pats fan in florida, and maybe not having the NFL ticket.. sure you give an objective point of view.. or maybe more of your revisionist history.
