does anybody really think the redsox are going anywhere in the post season this year ?i think they are one series and done .the pitching has been off in the rotation and the pen.wakefields last three starts have been lousy .dice k has been awful .okajima has been getting hammered .i just dont see it this year .i hope im wrong.

Right now, I just hope they win the AL East. That's going to be difficult enough for them, the way they're playing.

They are certainly trying their absolute best to give it away to the Yankees. They have played mediocre at best since mid July and that's about the worst thing a baseball team could want going into October!

As long as they have Beckett, Ortiz, Manny, and Papelbon, they'll have a chance to do damage. Beckett is an ace who gives you a couple of W's a series. I think the AL playoffs are going to be terrific. All 4 teams that make it will be darn good. I think the 5th team, or the one that misses out, would beat any team in the NL.

They lose 3 of 4 and they are collapsing and suck? They still have one of the best records in baseball since the ASB, they still have the best overall record in baseball, no AL playoff team has scored more runs than Boston this month, and they have still posted a respectable team ERA of 4.56 in September.

Most importantly, Beckett and Schilling are pitching very well right now. If they manage to pitch the way they have been pitching recently, and the offense hits the way they have been hitting recently, they will have as good a chance as any other team.

I understand your worries. The Sox have been giving up their share of runs lately, and really are close to losing the east. If Tampabay had a bullpen they would have been swept in that series, the Yanks took 2 of 3 in that series, and last night got shut down by Justin Mcgowan. The Sox played better baseball when they had a comfortable lead. Now that they are hearing the Yanks foot steps, it's putting a lot of pressure on them. You have to wonder how things would be if the Yanks didn't have that awful start to the season. I still think it's to early to panic. They are still the team to beat, but definitley picked a bad time to slump. Bucholz will start tommorrow in Toronto so maybe he will be the guy to step up. You never know.

Make that 4 out of 5 now.

I thought maybe it was going to take Gagne some time to get it together, but we are way past that stage right now. He is just terrible, and noone is at fault but the Sox. Thats what happens when you put to many chickens in the coupe, and try to bring in a closer to fit in a different role. They didn't need Gagne, they went out and got him to say" look what we got". The Sox are just going to have to swallow the pill, realize they made a mistake. and never have him pitch again. The only time they should use him is if they are losing bad or winning by 5 or more runs where they know he can't mess it up. Gagne single handedly went into Boston and screwed up the chemistry of a good bullpen.

The Red Sox lost 5 of 7 in September of 2004 and they turned out fine. A poor 5 game stretch in September is not the end of the world and does not mean they are collapsing.

Not unless our entire team gets shots of adrenaline and steroids in their a##es!!!! Seriously, this is one of the most inconsistent red sox teams that I can recall. They got out to a early big lead, and then the rest of the way has been an inconsistent mess. Papi and Manny are shadows of their former selves this year. Youk got out to a fast start and has then been sh##ing the bed since the all star break. Dice K has some mental issues or something, possibly due to the fact that NONE of the red sox players have provided any F'in offense during his starts.....so in at least one inning per game, he gets frazzled/shaken and can't get out of a hole....after that he is toast. Schilling is pretty much done.......Wake has had a decent year.....but gets in these 3-4 game funks that kill us.......he is in one now....and I sit there rocking back and forth like Tito when he is in there.....Beckett has been the savior and if he doesn't get the Cy Young...the league is more rigged than I already believed it was....Papelbon has been great....Okie great early, now coming back to earth at the worst time......Gagne is toast.....I questioned his coming here in the first place because of injuries....but all the talking heads loved our trade.... Our entire batting lineup has been spotty.....up and down like a freakin roller coaster.......Lugo.....Crisp.....Drew (don't get me started) Cora (when he is in there) .......We just don't have it this year (ONCE AGAIN!!!!!...seems like a reoccurring theme.....I feel like a doofin fan).........I was hoping that they could at least win the AL East.....but even that seems like a stretch now.........This is like a freakin nightmare watching the damn yankees come all the way back and kick the sox a##es once again......it is painful......

But......anything can happen in the playoffs ....if manny can come back and be somewhat productive.....and if papi can contribute in any way....they may do something...who knows....

Gagne?,......make that at least 10 runs;) Seriously, I feel bad for the guy in the sense that I can tell he is really TRYING out there.....and maybe he is putting too much pressure on himself and now it is a mental thing...(Ray Finkel...laces out?).......He has been absolutely awful here......awful.....

The Red Sox are making asses of themselves. If they can't win the AL East, it's pathetic. It loks like they're going to lose today, unless they do something in the top of the ninth. I think their September performance is embarrassing.

I can't talk about the Red Sox right now.................

I am starting to think that these are our fathers Red Sox after the last 2 seasons. Injuries aside last year we fell apart. This team has been nothing but choking dogs sine '04

Gagne has choked big time. What a time to go into the tank. Dice-K misses Japan, I fear (BIG culture shock coming to America). JD Drew?? Papi's got a nagging knee or shoulder injury, prob needs surgery in the off-season. And no Manny. Why do I feel like I've been here before?

:(

Thank God "it's only baseball". (Hm-m-m)

No it's not the end of the world, but most likely it will be the end of this 07 season for this team very soon. I cant share your optimism because i don't see any positives coming from this team, not one!

-No hitting
-Papi trying to play on one leg
-Manny having p###y cramps
-No consistency in the bullpen at all
-Only two solid starters that you can rely on
-And now they seem to be getting injuries at the worst possible time

I was hoping the kid would of gave these guys a spark last night and he pitched pretty good, but once again it is kind of tuff to win games when the best you can do is score one run then have your bullpen implode night after night!

If we don't take the AL East, I think it will be directly attributable to Francona's faith in Gagne. He's cost us at least four games.

I would have to agree with everyone that the Red Sox could very well lose the A.L. East for us. What I am hoping for is that they get on a hot streak that is kick started with Manny coming back. Even if he only gets one hit in his comeback game he might still help, because the players will be happy just to know he is back. Also we are now in a three game series against Tampa Bay who we have had great luck against, and Beckett starts tonight. I believe that Oki and Dice-K just need a couple extra days rest to get their heads right. We will make the playoffs no matter what, and I can see us making it all the way (especially if the Yanks have to play L.A.)
