Re: Ray Ventrone back to Practice Squad

From Reiss' blog :

"The Patriots have signed safety Ray Ventrone to their practice squad today. Ventrone spent the 2005 season on the Patriots practice squad. He was with the Jets during training camp this year."

Most recently from the Jest :D
Yeah, now that Mangini no longer needs to pick his brain, he is gone. Probably Mangini will sign him in early December.

"Hell hath no fury"......

Gessner gets look
By Mike Reiss, Globe Staff
Continuing to keep their emergency lists updated, the Patriots had former Brown University receiver Chas Gessner in for a tryout at Gillette Stadium on Monday.

The 6-foot-4, 215-pound Gessner got his first crack in the NFL with the Patriots in 2003, when he signed with the club as a rookie free agent. He opened that season on the physically unable to perform list, was later activated for one game, then spent the rest of the season on the practice squad. He returned to the Patriots for 2004 training camp and was released on the final cut.

Gessner spent most of the 2004 season on the Jets' practice squad and was released by the Jets prior to the 2005 season. He's attempted to hook on with the Buccaneers in each of the last two seasons. He was released with an injury settlement Sept. 4.

Gessner does not have practice squad eligibility.

Another WR?

Re: Pats sign Ventrone to practice sqad

Ventrone, that should make some people here happy.

As for Gessner, I think its just the Pats keeping tabs on old players, a former Jets player makes it even more mentionable.

Ventrone is a Mrs B hearthrob. Will make her er 'happy'.

Gessner was one of my camp favs years ago. The guy looks bigger than his stats. Shadow roster phone #.

I am glad he's back...always liked him as a player...had a tough break last year as he was injured in NFLE...Welcome back!!

I agree. He needed a little fine tuning, but he's got lots of heart and he hits like Rodney Harrison (well, almost....). I'm glad to see him back in New England.

When Jets fans were taking their guesses as to who was going to make the final 53 right before the announcement about 75% of the fans taking a guess felt that Ventrone had worked his way onto the team by being a great special teams player all camp. A lot of Jets fans were surprised that he didnt make the team and were happy to see him make the PS. For whatever reason the Jets signed a Safety to their 53 man after week 1 and released Ventrone from the PS.

He never wanted to leave the Pats in the first place and is very happy to be back and wants to work his way onto the roster. He is also not very happy with Jets management for letting him go. He cant figure out how he went from almost making the roster to cut outright in 1 week.
