LEAGUE SAYS NO AUTHORIZED COPIES OF TAPE WERE MADE

The question of how the tape made by the Patriots in violation of league rules landed in the possession of FOX's Jay Glazer is becoming almost as intriguing as the original story itself.

On Sunday, I reported for SportingNews.com that "several copies of the tape were made because several people outside of the league office -- such as members of the Competition Committee -- needed to see it."

On Monday, Jason Cole of Yahoo! Sports reported that the NFL was considering whether to investigate the manner in which the tape got into Glazer's hands, and that Commissioner Roger Goodell is "exceptionally angry" about the fact that the tape was leaked.

Earlier today, we wrote a blurb about Cole's item, and in it we ran a link to my SportingNews.com item regarding the report that several copies of the tape were made.

But NFL spokesman Greg Aiello now says that no "authorized" copies of the tape were released by the league office, either to the Competition Committee or to anyone else. "We do not know how Glazer obtained it," Aiello said. "It should not have happened."If that's accurate, then the leak either came after the tape arrived at the league office -- or before. If, as we suggested earlier in the day, someone at the Meadowlands copied the thing, then Glazer could have gotten his hands on it without getting it from the league office.

Thank God the Patriots never had this tape - all we need is for people to accuse us of leaking it :)

isn't the Colts and Jets management on the Competition Committee? How great would it be to find out one of these 2 blow-hards were the one's that actually leaked the tape. Would Goodell take picks from them?

Link, please...

It's from profootballtalk.com

Ok, so there was no other copy other than the one the league has. This will be a rather short investigation and it will be conducted in two places - the Meadowlands and the Jets offices next to Hofstra. If the league never let the tape out of their site. The only other people who could have had a copy are the Jets.

This just in................

According to league sources, suspicion is now focusing on newly acquired, disgruntled, Patriot star receiver RANDY MOSS. Officials believe that both MOSS, and accomplice OJ Simpson hatched the dastardly plot, shortly after learning of Moss's impending release as a "team distraction".................... blaaa, blaaa, blaaa.....

Is anyone taking that site the least bit serious at this point?

So, Case closed. Kraft should tell Goddell to go F himself now. No more info from Pats to NFL.

My money is on Polian

So, the League broke it's own rules. They should fine Goodell $500,000 and suspend him for a few weeks.

and take away his foxy "top c-ock" loving wife, to make a statement that this behavior will not be tolerated in the future.

Sorry but I've been in Vegas the last few days so I'm not up to speed on all the news.

What did Jay Glazer do with this tape? Was it show on Fox or played for the public? Did he just describe what was on the tape?

Are the contents of the tape good or bad for the Pats?

If a copy was made before the tape got to the league office, then the whole "the camera in a sealed box" thing goes away, along with the chain of custody. As a lawyer, RG knows he's got a problem if this ever ends up in any kind of legal proceeding.

If the copy was made after the tape got to the league office, then RG's problems may be worse, because he now can't blame anyone on the competition committee.

Fred at PFW said today that the tape came from the Jets. One can only hope.

Were you in Vegas or on Mars ? You know if you'd layoff the Bongs and Hash Brownies, you'd be uptodate on the Videogate :D

Since this entire issue is about fairness and leveling the playing field, I think FOX should tell everyone from who/where they got the tape. But, you know they will say something about protecting their sources and this will never happen. Not good journalism to reveal sources.

I'm sure the Lord Commissioner is not considered part of the league office and I certainly would not be surprised if the guilty party is his Royal Consort.

Given the leakage and consistent with the Lord Commissioner's desire to level the playing field, I think the Pats should send all the requested additional information to all other 31 teams as well. Then everyone will have all this secret information and be able to use it on everyone else. And then there will not be any need to leak it selectively to FOX.

Vegas hotels don't have Fox sports networks, just ESPN so they didn't show the video nor did they even mention that Fox has it.

Roger Goodell does not have a law degree.

This would be a much bigger deal if NBC/ESPN would admit they got scooped, but talking about the leak would make their reporters look bad.

The return of our draft pick would also work as well for the NFL office being dumbasses.
