BELICHICK, PATS PISSED OFF

Though there still could be some more consequences down the road from last week's spy scandal, the controversy that arose last week -- and the media scrutiny that it caused -- has had a significant effect on the franchise.

As one league insider explained it on Monday afternoon, "[Coach Bill] Belichick is pissed, and he wants to go undefeated."

After trashing two of the other five 2006 AFC playoff teams by the identical score of 38-14 on consecutive Sundays, the Patriots clearly have the talent to run the table. A storm of accusations arising from past tactics is giving Belichick all the incentive that he needs to aim for a 16-0, and all the ammo he'd require to get the troops appropriately motivated.

The on-field leader of the troops already is on board with the chip-on-the-shoulder routine, as evidenced by his Monday comments on WEEI radio in Boston. According to the Boston Herald, quarterback Tom Brady lashed out at the critics, calling any suggestion that he received advance information "absurd."

"By no means am I sitting here getting plays and getting defenses and checking plays based on defenses that I'm getting. That's completely absurd," Brady said. "If that was the case, I think that's just ridiculous. You know, I hear other players, based on what I've heard on television, that 'Brady's getting defenses.' I'm saying, 'That's just ridiculous.'

"But like I said, we pick our battles, and the ones that we are most capable of fighting are the ones we play. Rather than respond with words, we respond through actions. It was a long week because you hear this, but at the same time, people will see."

Apart from the possibility that the Pats will ride the "us against the world" train long enough to bogart the bubbly from the members of the 1972 Dolphins, we think that Belichick or Brady or someone needs to explain exactly what the purpose of videotaping the defensive signals was, if Brady is telling the truth.

Then again, it could be that Brady was only ever told what plays to run and/or which defenders to watch for; such an approach prevents players from knowing too much about the shenanigans, and helps to perpetuate within the locker room the notion that the coaches are super-geniuses

They quickly go from running the table back to "someone needs to explain exactly what the purpose of videotaping the defensive signals was". PFT sucks, is a joke and this "article" is useless - but, yeah, pissing off Belichick isn't a good thing for his competitors to do.

Wow! They want to win every game! This is a HUGE change over last year where they wanted to go 12-4!

ROFLMAO.

I'm also so sure Belichick went up to that "league insider" and said "I want to go undefeated. I'm PISSED." What an amazing insight. My dad said the same thing over a beer the other day. Guess he knows as much as these "league insiders" do.

The difference is that this year they are being disrespected, and worst of all, they're achievements are being questioned by everyone. They are pissed and are out to make a point of this SEASON and all past season. You don't disrespect the Pats like. And the media is still beating this dead horse. On First take, they Bayless and Smith stated they wanted the Pats to be guilty of MORE. Not that they wanted them punished for all they did, but they want them to have cheated big time. The Pats are out to prove for once and all they are the best team ever. EVER.

While I agree with the two "*chick"s, there is a difference between wanting to win and a manicale need to win. Kind of like this week vs. Buffalo and the week we host The Rat - which game will everyone be more fired up for ?

Needless to say, the extra motivation doesn't hurt. Obviously the goal every year is to win every game. But the players have a little extra to play for now; their coaches reputation.

 BOMBSHELL .......... way to go Florio

Yeah, really. How is it newsworthy that a team wants to win every game it plays?

Ty Warren was on Sirius NFL Radio this past spring and he basically implied that the Pats beat themselves in the five losses (including playoffs) last season.

Thats a lot of pressure to put on your team especially at the begining of the season.

They're pretty much going to have to make goals like "Undefeated" and "#1 Seed" for themselves because the division is practically won already.

No, I see the point about the extra motivation, but do you really need a "league insider" to tell you that?

Just ask my dad instead. He'll even give his name as your source!

Who in the hell believes anything they read on that garbage website.........it's like the enquirer of the NFL.

Complete gargabe website.

Shouldn't our aim be to win every game anyway? It's not like this is news...

Breaking news: The Pats want to win every game this season. Wow! When I heard that one, I was literally blindsided.

Florio is now just pandering to the Pats fans. He doesn't publish stories sent to him that might actually show that there is a conspiracy against the Pats like the Curran blog entry that says Estrella might have been set up or the fact that Goodell's wife works for Fox. He publishes this piece that is basically a fluff piece that tells us nothing.

what a waste...he absolves and trashes BB at the same time

Then again, it could be that Brady was only ever told what plays to run and/or which defenders to watch for; such an approach prevents players from knowing too much about the shenanigans, and helps to perpetuate within the locker room the notion that the coaches are super-geniuses

In other news, TV shows want high ratings, President wants high approval rate, everyone wants more money.

I think this story is total fabrication.

BB has always preached:

"We take one game at a time and right now we're just trying to get ready for the Bills."

There is ZERO chance he said to the team:

"Let's show them and run the table."

I'm sure all the SD quotes were brought up and probably some Hines Ward, Jerome Bettis, etc quotes but just to get them going for one game.

I read somewhere that the Colts want to win every game too. They stole our idea!
