It's Official -- Moss is the Second Most Important Patriot

After watching these first two games, it is very clear that this is a radically different offense with Moss on the field.

And the big leads not only help us on offense, but they influence the defensive gameplan as well as teams are playing from behind.

To that end, it's clear to me Moss has very quickly become the second most important player on this team.

I think previously you could of course argue Seymour is #2, but watching what we are doing without him it's obvious his absence can be accounted for with others and achieve a similar level of production.

There is no one else who can replace Moss on this team. Just like there is no one who can replace you-know-who.

Assuming you mean "Second Most Important Patriot PLAYER" I'll come close to agreeing with you although I think Wilfork would edge him out for me.

But, yeah, he changes everything. I feel like our offense is like the Colts' now where I have confidence we can score a TD any time we need to.

I think you can make a strong case for Wilfork; however, I have confidence in BB getting it done with smoke & mirrors on defense.

Let's put it this way, outside of Brady, if you could give the Injury Immunity necklace to any other NE Patriot player, and grant them total them total immunity from injury in 2007, who would you pick?

I'd pick Moss and it's not even close.

I'd be more concerned if we lost Wilfork or Adalius. But I do appreciate the incredibly important production of Randy.

I would qualify that phrase with "second most important player on offense." No Doubt however, Moss has vastly outperformed the investment of a 4th round pick. In fact there are many 1st round rookies this year that are not producing as well as Moss. For example, #2 overall selection Calvin Johnson.

Disagree. Moss is explosive, but we'd still score points without him (just not as much and not as quickly).

Brady is #1, and for #2 I say Vince Wilfork.

The league forgot about just how dangerous and dominant a player Randy Moss is because he toiled away in faderland for so long. But, make no mistake about it, Moss is arguably back to being the most dangerous and dominant offensive player in the league.

Moss made Culpepper into a pro bowl QB when they were together and now, without Moss around, Culpepper can't even win a starting job with the Raiders or Dolphins. Moss would make Cassel look very good. With Brady already being great, life is very good in NE these these days.

Hmmm.......I have to disagree with Moss being #2.

Personally, I am going with Roosevelt Colvin as #2. I know many with disagree, but he is one of my fave Patriots!!

Assuming for the moment that the offensive production numbers stay in the neighborhood where they've been for the first two games, I would think that would force opposing offenses to go to the air that much more thus putting more pressure on the DB's.

I'll be honest in that I haven't had the chance to see too much of the games at this point (they're on DVR, though) so I can only go by what I've been reading up here and the final scores that the Pats have been able to contain the passing game of the opposing forces fairly well. But will that last?

I know Rodney will be back soon and that Asante is getting ramped but I still have concerns that the pressure will remain consistent while trying to field a healthy group of DB's. I guess my point is that while there's no doubt the look of the '07 Pats is pretty solid at this point, I think that as good as they are, our DB's and, well, the entire D-unit will be critical to keeping us from getting into shootouts with other teams that have competent QB's and WR's/TE's.

So, is Randy the second most important Patriot? I don't think so. I don't think you can narrow it down like that. That's the beauty of the type of team we have.

Wilfork is a good call. If there's one position other than QB where BB can't overcome mediocrity, it seems to be NT.

From a "what are we gonna do about him?" perspective for opposing DC's you could make an argument.

Both teams we've played have NO ANSWER for his presence on the field, and have not been able to make in-game adjustments for him. That counts for something.
