Dungy's take

So was the day your son killed himself, Dungy. Maybe you should've payed more attention to him instead of preaching holier-than-thou bull**** about a mere game from a stuck up, Christian fundamentalist position.

I lend approximately zero credence to any of the Abrahamic religions and find your post to be absurd and wholly uncalled for. I think you should apologize to the members here for such a hate-filled, disgusting post.

Edit: Your apology came while I was posting this.

What he said was probably over the line but what Dungy said was too. He basically through Belichick under the bus saying that's what he has to do to win. Sure, Dungy's son was a real person but so is Belichick and he doesn't deserve to be judged by this jerk who needs rule changes and refs to win.

Just to be clear...I concur with almost everything that you've said here (the only thing I don't agree with is the "probably")... and I've got no problem with being angry or attacking Dungy, within reason... but c'mon... there are certain things that are out of line, regardless... don't you think?

Dungy shouldn't have opened his mouth with such a meaningless statement. Basically he's saying: It's not a big deal and its a shame the NFL is being tarnished by it. Well, no ****.... He's basically not taking sides and pointing ou the obvious. Better just to keep his mouth shut.

Whole-heartedly agree.

He acted like he never had a son when said son killed himself.

EDIT:
I hear all this talk about class. Forget about all that garbage. Coaches know spy games happen and it seems he's trying to detract our victories from his previous games.

I'm all set with "class."

I apologize for that. You're right, there was no need for it.

I do get tired of Dungy acting like he's Mr. Morality, though, when it's clear that he has his own skeletons in his closet.

My second post crossed your second post, too... man... I totally get where you're coming from and I think that your apology was a stand up thing to do there.

No, it was definitely over the line. I apologized for it. I won't delete it, though (I said it, can't take it back). Like I said though, Dungy's a bit of a holier-than-thou prick. Belichick's got his own skeletons (and alot of them, people got on me when I called HIM an arrogant ass), but at least he doesn't preach morality (Dungy sticking his nose into business here that had nothing to do with him is the idea, even Mangini didn't come out and say stuff like this); these guys are football coaches, they (and we) shouldn't act like they're anything but. That's the frustration I get... I expressed it in the wrong way, I'm sorry for that.

I would just love to have someone find pictures of a Colts employee pointing a camera towards the Saints bench during their week one win. Wouldn't that make this self righteous prick shut up quick!

I get what point you're trying to make, but mentioning his son's suicide in that context is crass. I don't like Dungy as a person very much, but that one's a low blow.
Bringing anyone's family into smack talk is beyond the pale. Bringing up the tragedy of Dungy's son is petty and pathetic....it reflects the mind set of the poster. What a jerk.

I just saw the apology.

This forum needs to activate controls that allow posters to their delete posts. Why aren't those controls activated?

They're just trying to be PC. You would think Dungy (or MLK's long lost twin as Michaels suggested last Thursday) would be humble enough not to play, "what the kids may think," card considering his son's suicide.

That was the thing that really got me. The comparisons of Dungy to Martin Luther King, Jr. One is pretty good at deploying a cover 2 defense, the other was "pretty good" at gaining civil rights for millions.

Yeah, Tony Dungy...."It's all about the children."

Oh, whatever. He makes me want to puke. And ordinarily I like him!

I would love to see an honest statement from him that the Colts organization has never stolen a signal in their hallowed life. I won't hold my breath.

It is a low blow.

I don't think you should get on people like this at all. It's a tragedy.

Even if it is the truth (that is, if you read the kid's MySpace age before it was wiped).

Well, you know, Belichick isn't sufficiently Christian for Dungy.

Tony is a world-class whiner.

He apologized, it's in the past now. Everyone says stupid things sometimes, me doubly so.

O'hhh Herm... I wanna bite your ass baby!!! Grrrrr!!!

I will parrot the rest of the crowd and say that this comment was totally unnecessary. It brought absolutely nothing to the table and was essentially nothing but a gratuitous pat on the back.

I like Dungy, I think he's a good coach and a good guy. The Patriots have left themselves wide open to criticism, and overall I agree with him that I hate how the bad stories overshadow the good (and the NFL has taken some image hits lately, that's worrisome).

But I have to admit, the "please, won't someone think of the children!!!" line always makes me roll my eyes. Can't help it.

How about the referees always help Colts to win?? No scandal behind it?

Whoa!

That might be more than a bit out of bounds right there!

I agree with you about Dungy the man, and also with that quote, it's become trite to use "the children". It's like once someone has laid that card on the table, no one else has a comeback, and this is from a father who is using this episode as a learning tool.
