Suspended Cowboys coach Wade Wilson wants to know why he has to sit out five games and surrender $100,000 (one-third of his salary) while Bill Belichick gets off with just a fine and loss of draft pick, according to ESPN.

“I would say there is definitely a double standard being applied here,” Wilson told ESPN.com. “I don’t want to be seen as a crybaby or as someone questioning the commissioner’s decision, but I see some major inconsistencies here.

“To me, they’re holding the organization accountable instead of the person.”

Wilson was busted in the same HGH sting that caught Rodney Harrison. A diabetic for 24 years, he said he was taking the drug to combat his disease. In the SI story he said he was cleared of any charges of buying the drugs with the intent of distributing them.

There is a double standard:

The question is why was the Patriots organization heavily penalized for a minor infraction, while the Cowboys, who were importing HGH in by the truckload for their players, only gets slap on the wrist of a meaningless flunkie.

Wilson is missing the point. I'm not sure he should have been punished at all, but if he was going to be, the amount of time makes sense: Take the standard 4-game player suspension for doping, then add another game because it's worse for coaches to misbehave.

Belichick's "crime" is the sort of thing usually handled with a reprimand and loss of a draft choice. So that's what he got, plus the highest fine in history.

BB has so much more money than Wilson that he cares more about winning than his pocketbook. This punishment hurt him more.

No shame to Wilson for caring more about his own finances. He's in a different situation than BB.

The main reason Wade is in so much trouble is because he bought a large amount of HGH, and who knows if he wanted it all for himself. I wonder if he wants the same penalty for him:

-loss of draft pic for the cowboys (which would probably get him fired)
-$500K fine ( he makes $300K this year)

Besides, what kind of competitive advantage does taking HGH as a coach give you?

THIS is the double standard I see:

Read all the articles, the media is more concerned with whether the penalty 'hurts' the Patriots and brings them down. They just want to bring down the winner, for parity.

If this was anyone but the Patriots, I guarantee you the penalty would be nowehere as ridiculous as it was.

If it would have helped him I have no problem with it personally. However the amount he was buying gave the impression that the QB coach was buying and possibly distributing to players. There also is a set punishment for HGH, where there wasn't one for what BB did. The draft pick hurts the pats more than a suspension, look at the pats recent #1 picks; warren, seymore, maroney, mankins, ect... not to mention the largest fine ever for a coach.

I didn't see any information on how much he was buying. If he got caught in the Albany D.A.'s sting, then I suspect he was probably buying for a reason, though. Could someone point me to somewhere where it says how much he purchased?

If Wilson was taking it for his diabetes, I assume he could have gotten a prescription from a legit doctor. This is no different than the Romanowski case in which he procured legal medicines and pills through an illegal doctor.

Umm because it was proved that he was only using it for personal use, and he was working for The Bears, not The Cowboys, when this was going on?

You're just quoting what he said - which he can't prove - and isn't "proof" at all.

Not even the shady internet pharmacists claims HGH does anything for ED. Show me one ounce of evidence that anyone thinks it's a treatment for ED.

It's interesting to note that he as a coach got a higher punishment than Rodney - (see - that's a fact !) - which probably leads one to believe that the league didn't buy his story either.
