We need more article like this!

Nice read. Thanks for posting.

Re: Pretty balanced artical from Philly...

This should be a sticky.

Now ask yourself why other members - not to mention the NFL itself - of the media want to fan the flames of ignorance by making believe that sign stealing is a rare occurance and that its considered "cheating" by the NFL.

Good read. Could we entice this writer to the Boston area?

Re: Pretty balanced artical from Philly...

Thanks for the article. Nothing more needs to be said. The Patriots got caught and deserve their punishment. And it is cheating... in a league and in a sport in which cheating, or "preparing," are part of the game. This is such a coach-driven sport. If you're a coach and you're not stealing signals, you have let your player's down. Too bad Belichick had to get cute and reinterpret the league's memo. That's what happens when you're "smarter" than everyone else. But this mode of preparation is in Belichick's DNA. He NEEDS to compile as much footage as possible and overprepare for every contingency. It's the only way he's going to win. He's not going to inspire his team with a rah-rah speech in the locker room. Of all the NFL coaches, of course it would be Belichick who would get caught doing this. Few coaches are as monomaniacal about "preparation" as he is.

Re: Pretty balanced artical from Philly...

I love that STILL the best the journalists can do is posit, "It must have had some value to Belichick, or he wouldn't have done it so brazenly."

What was the value?! NOBODY seems to be willing or capable of telling us. So maybe, just maybe, they were recording for reasons other than what everybody assumes.

This is maddening. Why doesn't one single journalist have the balls to say that there is serious doubt that the tapes were used to cheat? Why don't any of them even entertain the notion that maybe the reason none of them can come up with how we used the tapes to steal signals is because they weren't shooting the video to steal signals?

Re: Pretty balanced artical from Philly...

one of my best friends is living in PA and he is laughing all the week about comments made of H.Ward, porter and the ohter active players and coaches, who lost a battle against us in the last 6 years.

Like what i said, e`body is doing that in the league because its the MOST professional league in the world.

It`s not Formular 1, Nascar, Indycart, English Premier League, NBA, MLB,
it`s the NFL.

besides of that, Mangini is gonna to destroy himself. He had a 3 years plan and his 2nd season is going to fall fast. well 1one season left and he will train the west chester high shool as an waterboy or whatever.

i will give the a.reid a big THX for his statement. the rest of the league doesn`t matter at all.

Pats and Eagles maybe again next Febr.

Re: Pretty balanced artical from Philly...

Thanks VPF. Nice article.

Re: Pretty balanced artical from Philly...

Now I agree its a good article but calling a writer a jerk who does not agree that the Patriots are the greatest team ever is just stupid and homerville on your part.

In life there will be things people say and do that you agree or disagree with and you have to take it like a man,If every person who disagrees with your opinion is a jerk then you need to grow up man and realize what you say may just not be the way it is,everyone has opinions - respect them as long as they don't go too far off base.

I don't think that was being implied here. I think this has more to do with the contradictions and general hypocrisy of the media over the past week. If it's not the case, then I apologize for the post because I do agree that people who disagree with the Pats actions doesn't make them jerks.

Re: Pretty balanced artical from Philly...

It's ironic in that the Patriots are one of those "few other" teams whose bench faces the press box (sits across the field from it). I believe ex-coach Ron Meyer made this change in the 80s.

The value is purely convenience. What would you rather do:

1. Hire spotters with binoculars to make notes of hand signals, marking down the play for each signal (e.g. "1st quarter, 3:50 to go, 1st and 10"), then later going over the game film and matching up the signals to the plays, hoping that the notes are accurate and complete, or...

2. Hire a cameraman to film the hand signals, all the while talking into the camera's mic to indicate the play and even capture some on-field action after the snap.

Coaches spend enough hours at the office during the season breaking down film, preparing gameplans and the like. If there's any way to save some time in this process, they'll gladly try it.

Regards,
Chris

P.S. I just read the article. Best one I've seen yet.
