I just heard on Mike and Mike (on whichever ESPN TV channel they are on now because of soccer) that Chris Mortensen said the Commissioner's statement also said that the Patriots video program was going to be under review and scrutiny.

Mortensen said review was code for investigation, and that this may not be over. He talked about the other clubs who have also complained about headset and audio problems, and that they league may still be looking into what other systemic cheating procedures the Pats have set up.

Besides all the hoopla, and the issue about whether it was cheating or important or not, I can't see the how the NFL has anything to gain by damaging their own product? Why would you want to do anything that tarnishes games or championships in the books? Nothing can be done, and all you do is make the foolish fans, and the sour grapes players whine, and make excuses. You diminish the history of the game, and make the league look incompetent. Now everyone can question every game and result. Just plain dumb.

I laugh at this. If that were the case, they would have waited to hand down the penalty until the full investigation was completed.

Except the NFL asked the Pats why they had an additional audio set up and there was apparently no satisfactory answer.

They don't have to mess with the official one, all they need is another close by using the same frequency, and you get interference and problems. If the 2nd one isn't used to send anything, its just there to generate interference, then they can control how effective the official one is.

My only hope is that if there are those types of problems the league handles them quietly. The Commissioner's statement may have been to let the other teams know they would take care of the problem, without the media frenzy generated by videogate.

Where did you get this? You are the first person to mention this. The only "extra set-ups" that any team is allowed to have is the dummy headsets that don't work. You know, the ones that several coaches have said they have.

So, what you are saying is that being within 50 yards of another transmitter would do that? If that was the case, then the headsets on the field wouldn't work...

I can remember several times over the past 6 years, the Pats headsets have gone out.... This is normal...

Man, I'm hearing some wild stuff this morning on all the sports news channels. Speculation about headset tampering, frequency jamming, and wired offensive linemen. It's gone pearshaped at this point and people have become insane.

Unfortunately, all that's needed is a crack of doubt and the conspiracy paranoids will come out of the woodwork with any number of fantasies. Unfortunately as well, these stories develop legs and are passed among the media like folklore where many that have no basis in fact are then re-told to the point where they become urban legends and are perceived as the truth. This is a dangerous dynamic, as we are going to be hearing a lot of fantastic stuff over the next few days. There are even rumors that the NFL is investigating all these other charges in an internal manner and is prepared to dole out more punishment.

My take? I believe the NFL will keep a close watch on all teams, but the stories about top-secret internal investigations is just another media orgasm by those conspiracy theorists. Goodell is done with his punishment of the Patriots.

Just heard the statement on ESPNews. Goodell did, in fact, say that the tape had no bearing whatsoever on the game, so you Jets fans clamoring for a forfeit can suck it sideways.

I'm sure the league uses proprietary technology in those headsets, technology that uses high tech encryption or unique frequency badwidths that not just anyone can mess with.

If not, then I propose that Pats fans bring to the games juiced up, variable frequency transmitters and jam to your hearts content.

Not the only place I saw that, but the only place I can find now.

I am sure that the two teams are not on the same frequency, they aren't supposed to be able to hear each other's stuff. So jamming one wouldn't necessarily hurt the other one. Not sure if they know the freqs, or if they are 'dialing for dollars'.

Proprietary stuff would only help with listening in, if you are just trying to scramble it probably doesn't matter.
