I was thinking...

Goodell was in a no-win situation. If he didn't come down hard on the Patriots he'd be accused of being a puppet for Kraft, who is largely responsible for him being named Commissioner.

If the Patriots have a legitimate way out of this, perhaps they came up with a plan for the Commish to come down hard on them, then they'd take their case to an arbitrator and win the appeal.

This would allow the Commish to save face in the eyes of the lynch mob that is simply to unintelligent to be dealt with honestly. The masses must be manipulated because they are too stupid to be handled any other way.

No way I'd appeal that. That equals a slap on the wrist in my opinion. They still have 4 day 1 picks including the 49ERS round 1 and Raiders round 3.

Know when to fold em and walk away from the table.

WOW. You think that is a slap on the wrist? Its the harshest penalty handed out for ANY transgression.

I'm sorry, but the 49ers and Broncos commiting transgressions that were significantly worse and more damaging to the game than what the Pats did.

Also, its sends the wrong message. How is it OK to buy audio tapes of another team or employ lip readers or buy a seat for someone in the stands to sit there with a pair of binoculars to watch the DC but its not ok to tape the DC?

Its hypocrisy.

A first round pick is ridiculous.

Not to say the players union can't be too pleased. They just denied 1 college kid first round money, cuz now only 31 will get it, 32 get's screwed cuz he is #1 in the second round. Probably cost him a million or so over the life of the contract.

Also it give you him no UPWARD wiggle rule. What happen's if they find a coach that stole a playbook, or some other worse infraction....... Public hanging

You're crazy if you think this is a slap on the wrist.
Belicheck getting suspended was the big fear for me. Coast us a game or two.

I don't give a hoot about the fines, and neither should you. BB must make $5 mil a year. 500K leaves him with only $4,500,000 this year. Wah. Kraft lost $250,000 in his couch watching American Idol.

The only thing that might hurt is the first round pick, and we have two next year.

This is more than a slap on the wrist, but not much, and it will have sero effect on our winning a SB this year and next.

Zero.

It's hypocrisy for sure, but so what? It is a penalty that doesn't affect our ability to win a SB this year or next, and now all the people screaming for BB's head are satisfied.

Plus, he probablly lost an ally in Kraft - at least I hope so - and will be made to regret it in the future.

That is probably the biggest area where he has shown now that he is OK allowing what they are all calling CHEATING by every team in the league by stealing signals. It is ok if you buy a tape of a team practice to figure out their cadence or audibles and heck, if you want to hire a deaf person with binoculars to read the coaches lips....sure that is ok......but if you are the Pats ....and do anything remotely like this......you will be PUNISHED severely.....He has shown himself now to be a HYPERCRITE...one of the worst things you can ever be in that position!

I would appeal this if I was Kraft.....

My understanding, limited as it is, is that Goodell is the final authority on these matters - same with the Pacman/Henry situation.

When you appeal you are essentially going back to the same guy with no fresh evidence asking for a different ruling.

To me, that sounds like a futile pursuit.
