BB needs to explain what exactly the recording does and how it works and how prevalent it is. He needs to explain how much looser the rules were before, and how many teams he knows that do this. He also needs to mention whether or not this happened b/c of confusion with the rules.

He also needs to talk about how they just tape these signals for the future and not for use in the same game.

This is ridiculous, he needs to defend himself.

This morning i thought that this couldn't get any worse.

I think you're right but I have a feeling we're getting nothing more than the standard "we accept the punishment" statement. Only someday when a book is written about this whole thing will we know the truth.

has bb ever defended anything ?

his alleged extramarital affair

he will not and thats why get continue to beaten with a baseball bat by the media and everyone.

he will just release a statement. Bet on it.

Im the biggest Belichick homer, and I agree with you . I dont want another 3 sentence statement, I want to hear from Belichick, I want answers ... This should be a great season and another ring on the fingers, instead we are becoming the anit christ of the NFL... I hope all of this was worth it..

He already said some BS about "interpretation" of the rule.
Belichick screwed up royally.
I know that most here won't admit it think I must not even be a fan of the team for saying it, but it's true.
It was the same guy who got chased out of Lambeau. He should never have been on the field with a camera again.
It was just a matter of time until we got nailed for it.

Screw that, it happened , they will get punished, let's get back to football. He talks and you'll have 2 weeks of people saying he's lying here, but maybe that's truth, he's not sincere, blah, blah, blah. I've had enough.

I think it would be better for him to speak candidly about this, but who knows if he would actually do it.

I just keep remembering this NFL films show on the Patriots after they won the second SB. Belichick talked about all you had in the NFL was your reputation. He just messed it up right here and big time. Why? Why did he do this knowing very well what could happen? I just really want to know. I'm not angry, mostly I'm just bewildered and sad.

It does seem Nixonian.

he is who he is. Iam just hoping long term he is still our coach. With his contract details unknown and all who knows what kraft might do. i know its really long term but hopefully he stays with us -whatever he did. iam not a longtime pats fan and watched the game of football only from the 2000 season. I have learnt more about the game and tactics from BB and his press conf and his approach more than any other place. He has his flaws but i like him for his job- NFL Head coach.

I am afraid this will be his last year now. If they somehow pull it together and win the superbowl this year, I think he retires with a BIG F YOU!

I totally agree, SVN. I think it would be just horrible if it all ended this way. It almost seems like he would have to stay around just to do damage control on his reputation.

I don't know what the Krafts are thinking though. It's really up to them.

My guess is he'll defend himself by doing anything possible to win a fourth ring.

sometimes the smallest of mistakes -i mean small by the factual effect it has had on the profession ;in this case football games won by our team- can have larger effects.
Someone refered it to nixonian- i just hope it doesnt end the same way.

LOL, yeah me! I used Nixonian in a previous post in this thread. But it's more than that even. People in positions of great power tend to get caught doing very stupid things. Some people thing that power makes people very, very reckless. It would appear that is the case here.

If Adam Schefter isn't spewing junk (and I certainly hope not, because if he's right I'll consider him the most dependable NFL Analyst out there) than we already know what Belichick was doing. He was recording defensive coordinator gestures (even in meaningless games like against Green Bay) to create a catalog of what they may have to face in the division if that person gets hired. Reportedly, Belichick's contention is that there is nothing in the league operations manual that prohibits this practice.

He loses on this though, because if the commissioner sternly warns against the use of unauthorized cameras, it creates a sort of umbrella policy that also forbids what he was doing even if nobody specifically outlawed that task.

He should have known better, and he'll suffer the consequences for it.

not expecting a fireside chat with Bill....if he could whisper in each fans ear what he believes he would....but to say it publicly means the media and other will know.

Bill Belichick had an extramarital affair with Ted Johnson??? Oh crap the Salem Witch Hunt media mob is going to have a field day with this one!!! ;)

agree although the doing stupid things has never sunk in to me. its more like BB believed that mangini if animosity he had he would do it between organizations not personally by getting BB caught. People havent talked about it but this has effected BB's kids etc. Imagine what they must hearing in their circle...

Tampering with the pats and all is between 2 teams. This action of mangini(again iam not absolving BB) has caught BB off guard.Something he didnt expect.tough to explain but BB was prolly used to his 35 yrs of coaching "unspoken rules of conduct" . Iam quite sure if Parcells was coaching the jets now he wouldnt have done this.

You are correct....now all the SMALLEST things will be under a microscope....expect GODdells job to get excessively harder.....He has opened a can of worms....

Pride isn't a deadly sin for nothing. It can have really bad consequences in this life. BB thought he could do whatever he wanted, like a gangster who was one step ahead of the long arm of the law. The NFL should focus most of the punishment on him, and rightfully so.
