Re: listen to big show now..weei

Please note that weei is local media that is supporting the patriots.

Re: listen to big show now..weei

only the big show is supporting the pats and holley a bit....all the others are very anti pats

Re: listen to big show now..weei

I don't think the pats will be exonerated and i think they are going to get penalized for breaking a rule. but i think NE is going to make a pretty compelling case that they were not "cheating" as has been pinned on them in this rush to judgment.

Re: listen to big show now..weei

Has there been an official statement from the league office yet saying the Patriots did anything wrong? Has the Commissioner issued an official statement telling us the Patriots have been found guilty of cheating or breaking the rules? I have seen sooo many statements quoting sources and the like, I just haven't seen any official quotes.

Do you think they MADE UP the memo they just read verbatim???? WTF.

The memo was unclear...... and left wiggle room for BB to say -

"we never intended to use the tape for during the game. We tape everyone and then, as part of analysis post-game, we see if there is any usable stuff for us to use later down the road. I was under the impression that that was fine, so long as we did not use it during that game, which we had no intention of doing. Is that wrong?"

Goodell will HAVE to take that into account because the MEMO leaves a little bit of wiggle room. It should just say "YOU CANNOT VIDEO TAPE DEFENSIVE SIGNALS, PERIOD." Then it's clear.

It's hard to come down too hard on that................

Re: listen to big show now..weei

they just reread it.

sounds like they had it wrong the first time. it says "...that might aid a team in the playing of a game."

still vague. but not a smoking gun.

It should have said that TEAMS can NOT have video taping/ playing equipment on the sidelines, field, coaches booth, or in the lockerroom. And that NFL Security will spot check those areas to ensure that is the case.

Shoulda/coulda/woulda don't mean squat.

What DID it say is what's important. If it's worded the way that they just read, there is significant room for BB to plead "I thought we were okay". They may say no, but it certainly takes care of the "cheating" angle.

That is the point I've been making all along. If the Pats are known violators of this rule, wouldn't NFL security at every Pats game check for cameras BEFORE KICKOFF? Not like the Pats were trying to be sneaky about this.

I'm getting the impression that Goodell didn't think this activity was a major issue and didn't put much focus on it beyond the memo...kinda like a memo to remind players not to wear Vitamin Water hats at press conferences. Important to keep track of but not worth having NFL security become fashion police and certainly not affecting the competitive nature of the sport (besides the negative appearances to the masses).

Now his league is front page news again for the wrong reasons. He might take his frustration out on the Pats, but I'm thinking his relationship with Kraft is more important than that. I also believe Kraft will try to work with Goodell to help him put this issue to bed...maybe agreeing to a "punishment" since the Pats certainly weren't above board with this whole situation.

Re: listen to big show now..weei

It would make sense that Belichick taped the signals for intent to use in Week 15, though Goodell couldn't condone this either, even though the "letter of the law" says it can't be used DURING THE GAME.

richpats,

Are you saying that Paul Brown who started doing it and, Vince Lombardi, John Madden, Don Shula, Tom Landry,
Chuck Noll, et cetera couldn't be condoned from filming and studying game film, post game, for use before the next meeting? The NFL itself, trades tapes to teams from the previous three games to every team, so even that is NOT WRONG in any way.

No only innocent because not proven; NOT Guilty in any way.:singing:

Unless there was a direct connection from the camera to some coach able to influence a play in the 10 -15 seconds available to alter a package onto the field. That is improbable. :(

Now I want compensation. The first pick in the draft in 2008 for the disruption and character defamation, would assuage I think.

Re: listen to big show now..weei

You know what headline would be worth all this crap:

GOODELL ISSUES APOLOGY TO PATRIOTS
Pats did not violate rules, Commissioner says

Then......as for Hines Ward, LT, Strahan, Jack Del Rio, Tomlin......

RUN
AND
HIDE.

Dont forget McNabb who apparently wants his ring back.. oh wait.. he wants any ring he can get..

He never had one in the first place. Not sure how he can "get it back."

I think Goodell looks for any solid standing to let the Pats remain free and clear and blameless. Good for the NFL overall.. especially past perceptions

Nice. Two draft picks! And, a suspension for every toad who acted so sanctimoniously, and threw rocks while they washed their houses of glass. If this turns out good, I am really going to love reading the responses from our wonderful media gurus.

Re: listen to big show now..weei

We may still get slapped for actually having the camera on-field though. As long as it's clarified that we did not violate rules when it comes to cheating.

It is an infraction, not a capital crime.

And if the rule is so sloppily worded as to allow differing interpretations, even the infraction becomes debatable.

Re: listen to big show now..weei

People are going to remember the original accusation, not the end result unless it is overly severe. If the WEEI reading is correct and BB gains vidincation in some form via his interpretation, people will still feel that BB and the Pats are cheaters. This is not unlike the tuck rule in that many still hold out belief that was a fumble. That is their problem, however.

Re: listen to big show now..weei

Does anyone have a direct link to the doc that Ordway keeps reading?? I couldnt find it in the rule book.

He did say it was online...don't know where...but he said it was available..

Re: listen to big show now..weei

can someone please find the exact rule and post it in it's own thread or in this one?

I tried reading through the rules on the sticky but i don't have 3 weeks to spare.
(it was still nice to post it as a sticky though, thanks :) )
