It would make sense that Belichick taped the signals for intent to use in Week 15, though Goodell couldn't condone this either, even though the "letter of the law" says it can't be used DURING THE GAME.

Re: listen to big show now..weei

Interesting, I'm listening now........ If that's what the memo or rules say................ whoaaaaaaaaaa.

Some serious apologies will need to be handed out. Waaaay to grey and too much room for interpretation. Seriously, at the most (if what they are saying is correct), this is NO MORE SERIOUS then a mis-interpretation of a very grey rule/memo.

Anyone able to dig that report up and post it online. NO WAY can they even take picks if thats the way the memo reads. For those not listening, it basically says, you can not use recording devices in a game you are playing for USE OF IN-GAME analysis.

Cousin,
That is a good post. This might be where the BB "interpretation of the rules" comes from. If he did NOT get to use the tape to help the team "during this specific game", than how can RG nail him? If your wording is exact and concise, they can get him on attempted "filming" only. It would appear that if your wording is correct again further, using tape for a following teams contest is considered a non-issue because the specific tape was being done for a specific game. Stealing is allowed and condoned by the NFL and done by all teams so that part is really a mute point. All the past incidents are innuendo and cannot be proven. Whereas all teams legally "cheat" in the NFL, you can't single out BB as a "cheater". Wicked, nasty attempted filmer, yes.

this is exactly why i think this whole issue will be dropped with no penalties

Re: listen to big show now..weei

i believe they said they were reading from the "league bylaws" does anybody know how that relates to the memo that was sent out last month? wasn't that pretty explicit that you couldn't record at all, period?

are the bylaws online?

Re: listen to big show now..weei

Does anybody have a copy of the rule......this could be the point.

Miguel has a link on a stickied thread three from the top.

a memo is just that, a memo... the official rules are all that matters in this case

There's so many different things, it's tough to say for sure. The stuff from yesterday was from some Gametime Operations Manual or some such nonsense.

don't kid yourselves folks. This will be ugly

Can't be used................ Immediatly gives wiggle room for the "we were just taping, not for IN-GAME use" excuse. Granted, he will still say it's a violation perhaps.......

You know what headline would be worth all this crap:

GOODELL ISSUES APOLOGY TO PATRIOTS
Pats did not violate rules, Commissioner says

Then......as for Hines Ward, LT, Strahan, Jack Del Rio, Tomlin......

RUN
AND
HIDE.

I'm wrong about the NFL speaking with forked tongue. Apparently, my issues with the Miami game last year are irrelevant, if this is indeed the clarification. I beat that horse to death the last few days. But if the prohibition is only about using the tape in game, then clearly the NFL was right to say the Dolphins were well within the rules.

We may still get slapped for actually having the camera on-field though. As long as it's clarified that we did not violate rules when it comes to cheating.

Re: listen to big show now..weei

WWWWOOOOWWWW! If this is true.....how much crow will all of the naysayers in the media have to eat over this one! Thats awesome. BB needs to dig up a recipe for some crow pie, bake up about 20 of them and send them to ESPN, Mike Tomlin, LT,......hell he may have to set up a crow pie factory! That is as long as it is not a voilation of league rules.

Re: listen to big show now..weei

that is definately what was said on weei...during the play of the game. there may be some other bylaws that are different....

Re: listen to big show now..weei

Please post the "cheating" rules. I am not aware of any.

Re: listen to big show now..weei

Goodell is a lawyer.

It is surely the case that in HIS opinion, whatever memo was sent out closed the loopholes.

If BB can prove that his actions would not have been punishable were it NOT for the memo, then the punishment for this may wind up being pretty light.

But I stand by my previous belief that Goodell has made it clear there were punishable offenses.

I'm also guessing that the Pats were NOT stupid enough to tell any lies to Goodell they could possibly get caught on.
