Re: Lions coach says Patriots scrambled their radio communication

This just in, the new FAKE turf at Gillette has small microphones embedded all thru it - dont fact check it, print it! Its true...I heard it from the Oakland Pee Wee Football Assistant Coach!

Re: Lions coach says Patriots scrambled their radio communication

while I'm back for a few minutes I just want to point out I've seen helmet radios go out all the time. It's very common and all you have to do is tell the official and they'll make both teams stop using their radio systems until the league can fix whatever the problem is. Those little radio transmitters just need to get knocked around just right and they go out.....pretty sad someone would try and use something this stupid against the Patriots.

Also, that wasn't Mike Martz but what I took to either be an assistant or a player. Martz doesn't talk like that either.

This is called a "pattern of behavior". I presume that all this and much more from many, many teams is in the Commission's files. Almost all this stuff is probably utter nonsense. Only the Commission's office has the full story.

Would you be surprised the above allegation were true? Why or why not? Is you opinion different than it was last week? I expect that the allegation is unsupported nonsense, but I wouldn't be surprised if it were true. I also wouldn't be surprised in the Mangini engaged in such behavior.

Unfounded allegations by competitors with an axe to grind.

Re: Lions coach says Patriots scrambled their radio communication

What kind of headsets do they use? Are they digital with encryption? Seems like all you need is a guy with a portable radio scanner and you've got all their offensive signals.

Re: Lions coach says Patriots scrambled their radio communication

They are on a special band (similar to the police radio band) and the equipment is provided by Motorola.

Re: Lions coach says Patriots scrambled their radio communication

I coulda sworn I watched a half dozen games last season we weren't even playing in where there were issues with the communications equipment. Maybe Bill subcontracts out a special ops team.

I think the procedure is when there are documentable problems with the communications, the league shuts the system down for both sides to level the playing field until they can get it working right again.

Sounds to me like a handful of new generation HC's are in over their heads and short of admitting that think jumping on the Belichick did it to me bandwaggon may buy them a little more time to get it all figured out.

Re: Lions coach says Patriots scrambled their radio communication

I wonder what the excuse is for the other 12 games they lost.

I believe it's encrypted

Police radio can be picked up with a cheap Radio Shack scanner. Is it that easy to listen in on the QB signals? That would be interesting to me as fan, getting to listen to communications between the coaches and QB, nevermind the advantage that could give a team.

That would certainly make sense, the only tough part would be getting the equipment to do that into a form factor small enough to fit in a helmet.

Exactly when the audio system isn't working correctly for you (coaches or QB) you then tell the officials and he makes both teams stop using radio systems until they get it fixed. If your coach is stupid enough to not bother telling the official than that's his problem.

Thing is, if it only happens when you're on offense, what good does it do? The defense isn't using radios anyway.

They are absolutely encrypted and pretty much impossible to crack. It's a non-story as far as being able to "tap into" the transmission and get any information. It basically can't be done.

Re: Lions coach says Patriots scrambled their radio communication

Actually, the Patriots have EMP emitters, so whether it's encrypted or not it doesn't matter. And by EMP emitters, I mean they detonated a nuclear bomb in the atmosphere over Gillette. But it only affected the Lions.

The Lions are terrible.

Yea, but it's a simple fix which is my point. If you go over to the official and all of a sudden the sound comes back then when you back onto the field it goes out again and you suspect someone of tampering then you need to tell the officials and they'll have security check things out.

When the radios are out all you have to do is run over to the coach and have him tell you the play, then run back to the huddle, and the other team will have to do the same as long as your audio doesn't work. It's pretty simple and I find it very funny someone would try and use something this stupid against the Patriots. Think about it would you do that to the other team? If they're smart they'll tell the official and you won't be able to use your radios either so it would only make things more of a pain for you.

Re: Lions coach says Patriots scrambled their radio communication

Can the QB communicate back and forth with the coaching staff or is there only a receiver in his helmet?

Re: Lions coach says Patriots scrambled their radio communication

this just in Vick is claiming it was belichicks fault, he videotaped the atlanta game ,says he got mad and thats why he took it out on the dogs

===================================
Nah only the coaches, only one helmet with a radio in it allowed on the field at a time. the NFL turns it off as they brake the huddle and approach the line.

I don't even think it is activated in the no huddle offense, or the hurry up.
