Why did Mangini do this?

I believe it was in an interview between Peter and Boomer Esiason on WFAN. There should be a podcast of it on the WFAN website. It may also have occurred in other interviews with Peter King, which you may find on ESPN et.al.
On one of the threads from Tuesday (which is probably on page 96 by now), they had that quote from Peter King on Colin Cowherd's show - King was repeating was Baltimore DC Rex Ryan said to him.

I really don't think it's the sign stealing aspect that is at issue here. I think is the video taping of the signs. The problem is the commish clearly stated that this will not be allowed. So the incedent at the Jets game seems as if it is a blatent disregard to the commish's mandate.
Correct. But that also makes it a minor "bad boy you didn't listen to the Commissioner" infraction as opposed to the major cheating infraction that the media is playing up.

Link Please?

It's in another thread, that's all I got right now, there's about eight billion of them, I'll search for the exact quote when I'm done at work...LOL...I'm working hard right now in the office.

I've seen people make reference to the Colts as being one of the better teams at stealing signs, but I have yet to see anywhere that they have ever been linked to video taping the signs. It's a subtle difference, but like I said before, the issue here seems to be taping the signs, not just trying to steal them.

Then you agree this media "cheating" bloodbath is over the top, I hope?

Maybe so, but this horse has TOTALLY left the barn. The media has been quick to jump on this and ride it into totally bogus waters. So now the story is, and always will be, that the sign stealing IS the issue, and it's cheating and that's all she wrote.

I agree. But right now the commisioner is trying to lay down the law in the league, so this occurs at a really bad time for the Pats. If this happened before all the recent off the field issues with the players, then I don't think much would happen. But since it happened right now, I'm not sure how he will react. I'm pretty sure he doesn't want it to seem like someone thumbed their nose at him and he backed down. It's seems it's all a matter of timing.

Good point. This is about politics and not really about the so-called "video-gate" at all. Rival factions are pressing their point with the "king", and longstanding feuds are surfacing. The "videogate" is merely a catalyst for rancor and division, fuled by envy.

Yep. It's the times that we live in. With all the instant media outlet sources today everyone wants to be the one that you are watching/listening/reading. Couple that with the trend that is going on is the NFL under the current commish, people are running with it.

Honestly, what the hell is the matter with this guy?

If he wanted to prevent the Patriots from stealing D signals, he could have gone about it in about half a dozen different ways, none of which would have led to this Patriot-bashing mediafest. If his intent was as simple as stopping us from getting signals, then this media zoo does not happen.

This was obviously a calculated and perhaps premeditated move on the Mangina's behalf, with the intent to deliver a crushing blow to BB both in the court of public opinion and in the eyes of the league.

The question is, why does he want to taint the Patriots and BB so bad? He is forever linked with the Patriots AND their success, what good to him is it to try and tarnish that reputation?

Why did Mangini try to recruit players and staff on the plane trip home from Indianapolis after the Pats lost the AFC Championship game even before he even had the Jets' job?

Why did Mangini help Tannebaum stage a coupe of Terry Bradway after Mangini took the Jets' job when Bradway hired Mangini?

Why did Mangini systematically try to humiliate Pete Kendall by putting him in the rookie dorms, demoting him from starting guard when there clearly wasn't a better guard to back up center, and play him well into the fourth quarter in the third preseason game when Kendall got upset and wanted to be released because the Jets didn't honor their agreement to reinstate money he gave up if he had a good year?

Why has Mangini been apparently telling every one of the Pats' competitors all their tricks?

The fact of the matter is, for all the flack that Belichick got last year from the whole handshake and not saying Mangini's name, it seems like Mangini is a real weasel who treats everyone like crap and will walk over everyone to get what he wants.

For all the negative reputation that Belichick has for not being a people person, he would never had publically humiliated Pete Kendall like Mangini did. I don't think he would have staged a coupe or ratted out Mangini to all the other teams.

I can't wait for the Jets fans to turn on Mangini when they have a horrible year this year. I think this team is farther away from a championship this year than last year.
