Can Commish disagree with Committee???

So what if after all this, the Commish says "I don't agree with the findings of the committee, but some clarifications of the rules are needed"?

Is that more than just wishful thinking? In other words, can he do that? Is that even a remote possibility?

Or, along the same lines, can he say, what BB did was wrong, but within an interpretation of the current rules? No penalty warranted.

Is there the potential that he could disagree with the committee....of course.
Will he do this, given the incredible overblown media monster that this has become? No freakin way. Goodell has been backed into a corner by all this pressure and "media" demands that either he "give the Pats a severe penalty on this, or he will look like he is in bed with the owners. There is no way out for him......expect a very unfairly loaded judgement......anything can happen here now...from BB suspension for the year, a ton of our draft picks...etc

One guy on here talked about an analogy with the Salem Witch Trial....This is the best comparision I have heard on this subject so far........It is pure fanaticism at this point.

I think it might. To some, "on the field" means "ON THE FIELD". Not the sidelines. I can see BB saying "hmmm, no video recording in the booth, locker room, or on the field. Hey, maggot, take this video camera to the sidelines, and make sure you do not go onto the field, or into the locker room or booth....and here's a dollar for a coke, now get outta here".

What about audio recording devices? (miking up your defensive line to hear the QB audibles)

What about having a guy with binoculars viewing the defensive signals and writing them down, relaying them to the other team, or speaking into a tape recording to note them all? (with down and distance)

What about radio frequency espionage? (trying to tap into the signal to the QB and decode it)

What about bringing in players that are cut from a team and interrogating them (with kickback?) to find out about the other team... possibly getting a copy of their playbook?

Best-case scenario. If he indicts the rulebook then everybody (NFL & Pats) gets off without much damage.

Well, I still need a clarification. no one here is contesting whether the Patriots were using a recording device in this manner. The question is, were they cheating? If the NFL has no rules against stealing signals, and last year we saw that the NFL thinks stealing and cheating is legal, then the rules need clarification. It's been reported that Belichick interprets the rule differently. I'm pretty sure BB is contesting the gray area that the NFL established after the Dolphins game.

Well, I don't believe that the Commissioner has Carte Blanche in his punishments. He doesn't want to alienate Bob and Jonathan Kraft. I believe that Gooddell and the Krafts will come to an agreement on what the punishment should be before its announced.

I think that Gooddell will NOT follow the Competition Committee's recommendations because I don't believe that the Competition Committee has any legal authority over the situation. Not to mention their clear Anti-Patriot Bias. Of course, Gooddell may ask the 4 members who aren't clear Anti-Patriots people their opinions and use that as a basis for the punishment he imposes.

The problem that Gooddell has is all the reports coming out that at least 10 other teams regularly videotape the opposing DC. If Gooddell comes down hard on the Patriots, the next thing hell have to do is come down hard on those other teams because he'll need to make it look to Kraft like he's not targeting the Patriots.

You are mentioning other violations or other activities that might be rules violations. It is as if you were caught robbing a bank and you wanted out because auto theft laws were unclear.

This rule was reviewed with all the teams before the season. Perhaps there was confusion before then, perhaps not. Belichick and every other team got clarification. If he has evidence that other teams have used cameras THIS WEEKEND on the opponent's sideline, I'm sure he will present it to the Commissioner.

It's the not knowing part that is killing me. Please God let it be "didn't do anything wrong, but rules have to be clarified". I guess we'll know soon.
