How should we attack the Chargers Defense?

I thought the Bears OL created some nice holes for their RBs-me wonders if Thomas Jones would have done differently-Benson just looks *scared* running b/w the tackles. And the Chargers pass rush wasn't that impressive either.

And that's the key. The mixture, balance X 2. It's now being referred to as the yoyo offense in that they show the run until the D cheats up, then they go to the pass which causes the D to play deep. If the D shows blitz, they'll screen or roll to one side or the other with ample use of slot in one-on-one. This theme will be deployed with specific wrinkles for the particular team we play. My guess is that they'll take advantage of Merriman's aggressiveness and run a lot of fakes to one side along with traps and play actions getting the Chargers' D to commit, and then moving the ball in the opposite direction. This will be a good game!

They did a lot of double TE last year with tight formations and the Chargers brought the heat every play and there was no room for us to run and we didn't have time to pass. I'd like to see 4 wide (Watson can be one of them) spread formations with Maroney in the backfield.

Hit some quick stuff and some draws to loosen them up and take some shots deep when the chance presents itself.

You're probably right about what they will do and if they do that I wouldn't be surprised to see play action and then try some deep stuff like against Pitt in the 04 AFCCG. After Deion caught that bomb they backed off a bit.

I agree, it's hard to imagine anyone's 3rd and 4th DB, can match up with Welker, and Washington, and if they double Randy, Watson should own the Middle of the field.

I don't remember the Run being very effective against them last year, so I say start bombing away. But then again we didn't have the WR's to back them out of the box last year.

I think spying would be a pretty good idea...oops, cant do that any more!

Then let's beat them the old fashioned way...on the ground until they have to put 9 men up on the line...I mean POUND the ball relentlessly. The entire gamie if it works! I want the Chargers to take a beating first to open the passing game...then pass just to show them we can at the end of the game

I like that idea of coming out in the first offensive series in the no huddle formation. The only change I would make is to have 3 receivers and Faulk in the back field.

My thoughts exactly... we've just got to make sure that we can keep their front seven off of TB... mixing runs (or screens, quick slants, etc. in) should keep them drawn forward and keep them "off balance" enough to give TB the time he needs to shoot the ball down field when we take that chance.... we've just got to make sure to keep those "outlet" guys WW and/or Watson free and open for the short dump if we need it... the Chargers D looked quite good last week (Cooper is a player.. hard to say upgrade over Edwards... but may end up becoming that as time goes on).
