Why the Jets leaked this red-herring to the media

There is an ESPN article about this, where it details how Mangini told the Jets organization about how the Patriots ran things, including the videotaping, so without exactly saying it, it basically implies that Mangini is the source.

I think Callahan has him beat.
I stand corrected. Callahan's job of not changing the audibles from Gruden's time coaching the Raiders and then facing him in SB37 indeed would trump this.

Chris

Nope not aware of that situation at all:eek: That's nuts!! So why didn't the Pats file a Greivence or something?? is it because they had no proof? or did they not care? seriously why???
The proof was everywhere. The Dolphins admitted to doing it. I believe the Pats did file a grievance and the outcome was that nothing was illegal. The league clearly indicated that stealing signals is not illegal with that ruling. At issue now is the method (e.g. videotaping).

Chris

Um, having multiple sets of signals is routine. Ditto audible calls.

Chris

of course i understand that but trying to get 15 some players to completly change what they already know???

come on.... it's like " ok when i pat my head do this:rocker: and when i blow you a kiss do this:woohoo: ."

ahhh whatever doesn't bug me all that much.....

Obviously someone in the Jets FO told the Jets Cheif of security to watch out for this one camera guy.

Mangina is a rat, plain and simple. Unless I am missing something he was a coach with the New England Patriots during there 3 superbowls so if the Pats are labeled as cheaters then so is he,since after all he was a Patriot.

Only diffrence is is not only is Mangina a CHEATER but he is also a RAT!

===================================

That only makes sense that Mangini tiped off the security and put them up to this, thus making him a rat.

Appears Mangini only cheated when he was a Pat (thats my story anyway).

Seriously, I am trying to find a link showing EM tipped off the media, can someone help with this.:)

I honestly think that Mangini leaked the story specifically because the Jets got embarrassed at home.

Wow that really sucks.... I did a search and didn't find anything that's why i was curious about the fins pat game..... Anyway, yeah i feel bad for all of you Pats fans, i would be pissed if my team did something like that.

This could very well be true, but it appears nobody knows who leaked the story. I guess Leberfield would know since he broke it.

I agree with those that say that Mangini leaked this to take the heat off of himself for losing to NE from the NY media.

There is no doubt he sold out his mentor, the team that put him in the position he is in now for his own personal gain.

ESPN NEWS said just now that speculation is that it did come directly from Mangina.

I personally think that the Jets team will now go into a tailspin and Mangina is gone by the end of next year.

How can you as a player or a coach trust him?

DITTO!!! They got spanked and are looking for excuses!!!! Anything is better than the butt whoopin they got LOL

Mangini fingered the Pats simply to screw BB and the Pats. What

he has accomplished is marking himself as a s.o.b. for ever. What

organization wants someone who may turn against them in time?

Funny thing is is that the Jets knew what the Pats were doing and if Mangina is smart would have mixed his signals and if that is the case they still got there butt kicked.

The Jets as a organization should be embaressed.

ESPN is refering to who got security involved, no doubt that was Mangini.

My question is who leaked the story to the press, not that it matters anyway.

This is on ESPN's website:

"How it came to light?
NEW YORK -- A story in Wednesday's New York Daily News claims that Jets coach Eric Mangini, a former New England assistant under Bill Belichick, came armed with keen knowledge of the team's surveillance methods -- and finally decided to act.

"[The Jets] knew they did it," the Daily News wrote, citing a person with knowledge of the situation, who sent the newspaper an e-mail. "They caught the guy a year ago, but couldn't do anything about it. When Eric came, he said that's what they used to do. Bill is going to be [ticked] at Eric. He kissed and told."

Sunday's game was the fifth time Mangini has coached against Belichick since joining the Jets.

BTW - Nice of you to keep most of your responses restrained and not go overboard.

Did the Jets truely leak this story, any one have a link?

I do not know how the story got out.

But as for your reasons why the Jets/Mangini leaked the story (if in fact they did), they are good ones.

it was just stated on ESPN the Mangina ratted out BB. Nobody likes a rat. Mangina is going to end up in a NJ landfill

I guess I am splitting hairs again, we all know the rat who tipped off security. I am ok with that.

What would bother me whole lot if it is found that Mangini went to the media with the story, If EM leaked this to the press he is a gomer for doing so.

So Mangini tipped off NFL officials that the Pats were recording his defensive coaches' signals; He knew beforehand that BB would be doing this due to their history together. Yet we're supposed to believe that the Pats would have an unfair advantage by recording the signals; IOW Mangini's coaches didn't switch up the signals despite knowing they were being spied on. Wouldn't that make Mangini the dumbest NFL coach ever?

Chris

EXCELLENT CATCH:
yes. i'm glad someone else noticed that!
