Now we have a SI writer calling BB a jerk.

Can't wait to hear what Peter King has to say about this.

And your point? You think coach is an angel. I'm sure this writer isn't the only person in the world who feels this way.

i saw that article about 20 minutes ago, I just shrugged it off...

it's not even accurate or factual...

it's a media hack piece because he doesn't like the level of secrecy of some coaches. tough ****...

Wow, shocking. The first person to tell you BB is a jerk would be BB himself. I'm sure plenty of these coaches are.....you have to be to succeed in an environment like the NFL.

Not all successful NFL coaches are jerks.

It's like ESPN gets it's newbies off some turnip truck.

"There was his inexplicably negative reaction to his protégé, Eric Mangini, leaving the New England staff to take over the Jets' head coaching job two years ago. I don't think it's inexplicable any more. Unlike most head coaches, who would never stand in the way of one of their assistants getting a head job, Belichick acted as if he'd been betrayed. During the Jets' courting of Mangini, Belichick had the locks changed at Patriots' headquarters, and the first time the two teams met last season, Belichick brushed off Mangini's attempt at a post-game handshake as if his ex-assistant had the plague.Somebody needs to fax this bozo a copy of the story of how BB came to be here and how and whom he escaped from only by scrawling his resignation on a ****tail napkin...

He treated Colts quarterback Peyton Manning much the same way after Manning finally beat the Pats in the AFC championship game last year. No he didn't, he visited him in the locker room and was beyond cordial. No one is saying Belichick has to be Miss Manners, but would it kill him to be gracious, just for a moment or two? Maybe most damning was the allegation by former Patriot linebacker Ted Johnson that Belichick pressured him to play and subjected him to full contact in practice while Johnson was still suffering the effects of a concussion. Belichick has denied the accusation. Which was made by a retired player with drug dependancy and mental health issues that probably relate more to things he did to himself over the course of his career than anything coaches across the league were doing to all their players at the behest of the JETS team physician with the medical degree from a third world country the  JETS management got Tagliabue to put in charge of the league's concussion policies.

It's a disturbingly long list of behavior that paints Belichick as paranoid, unsportsmanlike, classless and, if Johnson's claims are true, even abusive. Taken separately, none of his actions may seem so objectionable, but together, they're troubling. It's doubtful that NFL commissioner Roger Goddell will go as far as suspending Belichick for his spying tactics last Sunday, but a short, enforced vacation might be the best thing for him. It might force him to realize that his behavior just isn't normal, even for an NFL coach. Wanna bet, junior?

Not all successful NFL coaches are jerks.

Please point out to me where I said they "all" are. If you can't do that, then please point me to a thesauraus which indicates "plenty" is another way of saying "all".

I suppose you're referring to Martin Luther King, Jr. reincarnated?

What a freakin surprise, another Belichick hater. I'm not trying to be a Belichick apologist here, but his method has been very successful.

The more the Patriots win, the more hate they will receive. Everybody else wants to New England to fail.

It drives this fan (the Q) to want to win especially at the expense of New York city teams like the AOGs and the Y-----s and the Nix and Nuts.

Not all successful NFL coaches are jerks.

The vast majority are, successful or otherwise. The difference is many of them are also media whores, so their idiocyncraties are viewed or spun a little differently.

Mangenius sent his Opiesque starting QB back on to the field with a fairly substantial injury that led him to finally opt out because he realized was a sitting duck in a lost cause. He now says he won't be able to play this week. And who knows how long he'll be sidelined or if he'll have a job with the JETS if and when he fully recovers...

You are surprised?

Belichek is a jerk.

A winnner - yes.

A great coach - yes

But as a sportsman, even as a man he behaves like a jerk. Other coaches come and congratulate their peers after games - he shoves reporters or wont shake hands.

Most people in life would be happy to see a protege advance in life and get a great opportunity - he chose to treat Mangini like a leper. Look at a great coach like Bill Walsh and see how many careers he helpled. A far greater man.

I wont get into details about his personal life but the same behaviour is documented there.

The NFL is a people business, and entertainment business - he is gruff and surly.

And now finally proven as the cheater he has long been suspected to be.

Yes I would say a jerk.

Heck, I think Belichick's a jerk and I'm a lifelong Pats fan. That doesn't mean there's another guy I'd rather have coaching my favorite team, but defending Belichick o the last drop when he's kind of personality-less is strange to me.

Thanks for your honesty.

As a fan I dont blame you for wanting him as Patriots coach. Its not like you hang out with him.

He is a winner, a great coach.

But he does act like a jerk.

He's not paid to be a good guy. Like the majority of fans, I love Belichick and am grateful he's not coaching for say....the Chargers!!

I guarantee on all your children's lives if Belichick left New England, where ever he ended up would immediately sell out and they'd be in the championship hunt within 2-3 years.

The sickening thing is, if he left New England, EVERY OTHER TEAM WOULD BE FIGHTING TO GET HIM!

WHAT A BUNCH OF MORONIC HYPOCRATES!

"But he does act like a jerk" and sometimes he hurts my feelings very, very much...and it just hurts! boo hoo

Bill Belichick may be a jerk. That doesn't change the fact that there's not one thing in that SI article that is truly factual. What a joke.

It's sort of like the Yankees. They have been very successful, so people are jealous.

All of a sudden, everyone is coming out of the woodwork and piling on Belichick. Belichick is deserving of some criticism, but a lot of the hate is coming from very jealous people.

My take on his jerkiness or lack thereof, by category:

1. Being a hardass to the press. Tough luck, guys. He's actually pretty generous with insight if you ask the right questions. Adapt to it, like a few of our younger writers have, and you may enjoy your jobs and succeed so well at them you get better gigs fast.

2. Cheating. Everybody does it. Tony Dungy admitted to cheating himself and exhorting his players, in every speech, to doing everything that wasn't downright illegal to get an edge.

3. Helping/hurting people's careers. Mixed bag. More good than bad. But the Garrett Mills thing is a black mark, as(if true) was the deal that Dallas wouldn't sign Vinateri.

4. Neglecting/maltreating/cheating on his family. That's for them to judge. His kids stand by him a lot more closely than many celebrities' kids do. Hence, I think he's done well in that area.

5. Taking a tough line with injured players. A failing of coaches all over football. He was wrong in the Johnson case and he probably has learned from his error.

Where are they digging up these hacks? It's hard to count all the falsehoods =in this one, but one thing we do know is Pey-a-ton and BB spent some time hanging out sipping beers during the pro bowl week. Apparently, that little fact escaped this piece of dog ****.

BB has no reason to be an angel, a devil, a saint, any other adjective one chooses to describe him. He has one mission: to win Football games.

I don't know about you, but I think he's done a pretty good job.
