Don Banks is on WEEI and he said his sources say that suspensions aren't off the table but not likely. He says it is the most unlikely scenario. He also said that it isn't definite that the Pats will lose two draft picks.

But he also said that Goodell is embarrassed by the situation and he isn't going to take it likely.

If that's the case we can forget about getting a fair game called against Indy or in the playoffs.

I also agree with what he said about this weekend.

The Pats will turn inward and make this an US against THEM issue. I say they play with a serious CHIP on their shoulder. Not only this weekend, but the rest of the season.

Yeah, he's going to compound the Pats scandal with one of his own by directing his crew to make calls go against the Pats. No, the punishment will be above-board.

This statement is simply uninformed. A commissioner who is publicly embarassed is going to create a bigger public controversy by having officials favor a team in a big game? Right. That will make things better. Please think before you post.

Guys it was a tongue-in-cheek comment. Yeah, I thought the officiating was questionable in our last couple of playoff losses. I'm not alone here.

Well, at least they apologized for the phantom PI call...

Goodell is not "embarrassed" by the Pats gamesmanship. He is embarrassed because an out of context incident has been leaked to the press, creating a media firestorm and unjustly calling into question the game's integrity. His nature is to avoid such controversies, and his anger is equally directed at the Jets, for shortsightedly leaking the anecdote to the press out of spite after a devastating loss. This act by the jets was the height of selfishness. everybody in the league knows that this 'gamesmanship" in omnipresent. Only the Jets used it to fend off the media cycle ready to tear them apart after a loss. Trust me, the Jet organization will be under tight scrutiny going forward for their self-serving role in this affair. Their manipulation of the media for short-sighted ends is the real culprit in this affair, which is really a tempest in a teapot.

I'm not sure I agree that Goodell isn't embarrassed - I'd say he IS, to some degree - but other than that your argument here really rings true.

I think there's at least some merit here--while positive change coming out of a #%&@)storm can be good, it's better to have the changes without the #%&@)storm, and I'm pretty sure Goodell would rather have dealt with it quietly, rather than have it blow up like this.

Goodell's pretty good at waving his d*ck around and being the tough guy.

So, you guys think the Commissioner is going to fine us and take away a second round draft choice, and that will be the end of it all. Please continue your denial if you must. 36 hours ago you all thought that this was all a hoax.

What's he going to do, kick the Patriots our of the league?

I think it's likely somewhere in between, but what YOU have suggested in other threads - that Belichick will be suspended for "several" games and that Bob Kraft would FIRE Belichick - is more asinine and far less likely than anything being thrown out by the people you're criticizing.

And I always thought I was cynical. Sheesh.

I'm now going to assume that Belichick will be publicly hanged at midfield and Polian will be working the trapdoor, so anything less than that will be a relief.

I think many of us thought it was a tempest in a teapot then, and still do. Unfortunately the tempest knocked off the lid, and in order to put it back on Goodell has to grandstand with a show of force. The grave sin which you seem so distraught over is an emperor with no clothes.

Bella, word on the street is, as early as today, but no later than Friday. I'm with you, the sooner the better.

This is probably taking some time because Goodell has to spin this in a way that doesn't hurt the integrity of the league (including the Pats). He can't have people thinking 3 championships were tainted (even if they weren't).
