For what it's worth (and considering that the author is the accuracy-challenged Rich Cimini, it's probably not worth much), here's the NY Daily News' description this morning of Mangini's role in all of this. No more man hugs!

The guy was wearing a photographers vest and underneath it a Patriots Polo shirt


So the guy in thye green shirt in the photos (on the Jets sideline) is NOT the guy who was caught

It goes on to say that the Pats video guy was nailed at halftime, then interrogated during the second half. My point is, how could this have helped the Pats if they essentially werent able to "take advantage of the sign stealing in the second half, where they put a whooping on the Jets...

My major takeaway, after reading the article again, is that the Patriots very likely did not get any advantage during the game. I think this makes a forfeit (as Mark Schlereth proposed on ESPN last night) highly unlikely as it removes the logic for a forfeit. I also think that the league will be very cautious in any penalty it imposes, because they don't know what else is out there and won't want to set too high a bar for future penalties.

This makes Belichick look even more stupid if true (i.e. not the story reported, but if this videotaping signs was SOP during Magini's time with the Patriots). It has been obvious that Mangini's only loyalty is to the Jets, not to the Pats (as it should be) and that he is not above screwing with the Pats. To then, continue doing something against league rules, knowing full well that Mangini has inside information and wants to screw with the Pats is extremely stupid. Weird though that the Jets needed four games to catch the guy. Guess Belichick did adjust the SOP, just not well enough.

What a piece of **** huh? This guy made you the coach you were and you treat him like this? If you knew he would do this why wouldn't you just give the defensive guys arm bands and number them 1-30 or whatever and change them every game.. I'm really disgusted with a guy who Bill made the coach he is today.

I can't imagine this will end well for Mangina. Do you want to be known as a snitch of your supposed best friend in any profession ? Can that inspire loyalty in your staff or players ?

If I were Belichick I wouldn't answer anything about her ever again and wouldn't even go to midfield after we smack them in NE. Even during the frostbite period between him and Parcells no dirty little secrets came out - and you know there had to be some.

It's like firing an employee who hates the company and then letting him leave with the key to the door and not changing the locks. Most managers would be fired for being so stupid. Belichick clearly isn't the genius he wants us to think he is.

While I agree that it seems stupid, Belichick has been in the league over 30 years and probably keeps, and has kept, dirty little secrets like this. I imagine it's considered part of being in the league to him and he didn't think she would stoop this low. Additionally we played three times last year and . . . nothing . . . which probably gave him a false sense of security.

I think it's more of the "code of silence" that wasn't so silent when it came to Mangina. That's why the Patriots got caught.

REMEMBER this guy is in New York and has HUGE expectations after last seasons miracle run. He'd sell his sole for another successful season. Dropping a dime on his former mentor is step in that direction, all he cares about is winning games so he can keep his "Mangenius" title.

I wonder if this is Mangini's way of saying, If we're not going to be friends, then we'll be enemies? At any rate, unless the Pats can show that this kind of cheating is widespread, then they deserve a harsh penalty, but the harshest penalty may come from the fans in other stadiums calling us cheaters, the negative press for the Pats, the loss of credibility for the Pats, and the loss of respect for BB by some of his players. This scandal, I think will affect the locker room.

I think BB is an absolute idiot for engaging in this kind of behavior, unless he can show it's pretty normal in the NFL. This could be as bad as steroids.

Eric is where he is today because of ego. Unfortunately, Eric wasn't really what the JETS wanted. They wanted BB and thought they settled for a BB clone. Nothing could be further from the truth. Cimini tore him a new one in his post game piece. Once the dust settles, the NY/NJ media will begin the process of eating him alive for not delivering genius.

The person with the camera, in this case, Patriots video assistant Matt Estrella, would tape the coach's hand signals as he sends the defense in. Then the camera person would verbally call out down and distance so the recorder's microphone would pick it up. This cracked me up. Teams are in the locker room for 12 minutes at the half. I know we strive to hire smart players, but who among the linemen is smart enough to commit this crap to memory - cause other than Brady the rest of them are seldom in for more than a play and some of them are still struggling to learn our own calls and the playbook. Using this information last year would have been beyond challenging with the starting center and LT gone and Dillon and a rookie rotating and receivers being added and subtracted almost weekly...LOL

I watched the game again last night. If as I'm hearing today that this camera was confiscated in the first quarter, then we did not need their stinking signals to woop their ass. When they come hear later this year, that team is going to wiped off the field. Bank on it.

Calm down and wait for something factual to come out from the league office. Half the sh-t coming from ESPN has been just that, so far. This is nothing like steroids in the NFL, which itself, is nothing like steroids in MLB. We need to be calm about this instead of being like fish in a barrel.
