Coffee with the Coach...

Alright Mo...what is he saying...some of us unfortuantely are on the West Coast...

Any link to listen live on the internet ?

Asking him about the video camera confiscation story. No comment on league matters. Heard yesterday that the camera was confiscated but he was busy with the game. It's a league thing, whatever it is we will comply.

BB continues to dodge the video questions.

"I was just coaching the game...Just trying to coach the team...I don't have any comments on league matters...whatever they decide we'll accept..."

In total about 5 questions before the subject was changed. A few dumb ones at the end by Smerlas, to which BB responded "I haven't done advanced scouting in years."

Thought players played hard, better than JETS, deserved to win. Lots to clean up.

Thought Oline pressured 30 or so times (including run blitz) and Oline did well. Opened up play action and outside opportunities. Blitzed quite a bit. We tried to invite the blitz sometimes and then tried to avoid it via formation at other times.

Safety and LB blitzes, they called a number of them and gave it a shot, then they backed off.

Thought TB and RM had a good week of practice plus they were together all spring. Still nice to see how well they did in the first game.

Will continue to involve all the RB's depending on game plans from week to week - thinks they can all be productive.

Fred asking about Felger's issue on practice. BB says Randy did. Turned him practice info over to the league like all of them. He was able to do quite a bit and he did it.

On Ellis - they have guidelines for kicks but it's not hard and fast and depends on situation and we do want to be agressive and run them out. Hangtime is a factor. Backside came close to getting him, but then there were only two who had a shot and Watson peeled back Washington and the other guy missed and the rest were just chasing him. Ellis hits it hard and fast and he's tough to bring down, good balance, strong runner low center of gravity...

On Asante things fell for us defensively we weren't out there forever and their longest drives were seperated by long drives by us so with 3 receiver sets we needed him but the way the game went the D wasn't out there a long time.

Talking about how someguys like the variety of crossing over and how it can work out better 45 active wise at times.

Says Mike is very good pass rusher with long arms and good instincts from outside and we'd like to keep him out there - but he can play both.

Seems like Jarvis always plays well, nose for the ball, good instincts, real solid player for us...

Fred now wants to talk about Tom's improved body language....awesome....

Fred seems somehow fixated by Tom's body.

He knows Norv very well. These guys have a history of going against each other for many years on different teams. He seems to indicate that there will be nothing they haven't seen before.

On Chargers - we know what they think of us so we'll have to up our game...

SD mostly the same only techniques a little different, similar style of defense and Norm's system is his system but there will be carryover because of talent doing what it does. Little different look.

Very talented team, well balanced, very good run team and good run defense. SD hard to cover since either LT or Gates can kill you.

More 2 back runs less shifting and motion, deeper drops, more downfield passes, little differences between Norm and Shotty.

Can Tom overcome Michigan's 0-2 start? Says he's taken some heat, Vrabel won't let up.

Coaches Question? About process of planning for next game...

Process on Friday before prior game start looking at next opponent, coaches have already broken down film, make notes, then after watching our last game tape Monday AM turn to SD tonight and start working on specific game plans with staff Tuesday AM.

Asked Fred what you do on 4th and 1 in JETS game - Fred said go for it. BB says if you feel like you have a good play, go for it. Sounds like he would have 'cause he liked the way we were running early. Good time to set the tone.

Norv hasn't seen Brady2Moss before.

MoLew, thank you kindly!

Did anyone else besides me interpret this quote as an admission of guilt?

No, of course not. That's exactly what I expect him to say. I certainly did not expect an impassioned defense of our innocence. That is just not our style.

Are you saying he should have said "we'll definitely appeal?" If so, then I see where you are coming from, but I still think this was pretty much a run of the mill Belichick response.

Usually when BB says nothing it's because the reporter asked a stupid question and usually he sounds bored or makes a wise @ss comment. This was different he sounds uncomfortable.

When I first heard about this my thoughts were no big deal Miami according to sources had our line calls last year down there, basically everybody does it. But hearing BB today made me think he was nervous about it. Not sure what the NFL does in these situations, one theory was the Pats would lose a draft choice. That would be typical if we lost a pick and the Jets, Redskins and Bills didn't after tampering with our players in the past.

He didn't sound nervous so much as uncomfortable that they would even ask him out of the gate about something they know he wouldn't comment on. Same way he sounds when the regular mediots ask their inane quesitons about injuries or game plans in the daily PC's. He has an understanding with these guys, which is why he is generally so relaxed and more open with them. Glen must have felt a momentary need to "ask the tough question" to boost his non existent media cred. The way he was joking with Fred at the end, I don't think Bill is terribly concerned about anything today.

Uncomfortable is probably a better word for it than nervous but BB never sounds uncomfortable when asked a question he would rather not answer. He may sound mad, aggravated.....but uncomfortable?

I heard the interview and that was my impression as well (and that is part of my training as I'm a lawyer).

I have to agree. That statement seemed a little bit ominous. One could very easily replace those words with "we'll see what happens".

But his actual statement is very specific.

Either way, I don't think they'll be any repercussion other than being admonished by the NFL.

The value of stealing signals in the NFL has less value than it does in baseball, because regardless of what you may know, your athletes still have to make the plays. On 3 and 10, you know there's a pretty good chance a blitz is coming. You gotta stop it though.

This activity is prevalent throughout the league and I hope the Pats really hold others accountable for crap they pull.
