Olbermann names Jet fans "WORST PERSONS IN THE NFL..."

I really didn't think the Jet fans were cheering at the injury. There was no way that they didn't see Chad coming off the field, unless a fan had his face absorbed beer suds. How many times did he fall down trying to get to the sidelines, then limped on one foot to finally get off the field. That effort is what I thought they were cheering. If they were really disapointed in another injury, they would have booed. When the announcers first mentioned the fans cheering the injury, I disagreed with that assesment. Don't get me wrong, most Jet fans suck, but not on this occasion.

None of this makes sense to me. Who's claiming they "didn't see Chad coming off the field?" Of COURSE they did - and they were cheering because this was their big chance to see the much heralded back-up, who, when HE came onto the field, they cheered even louder. I don't understand your post.

Full retraction. I was checking the out the bloodbath over at Jetsinsider, and one Jests fan insisted that the cheering started when Chad showed the first signs of distress and said to check the tape. So I did... sure enough, he's right. 10:23 or so left in the 3rd quarter... the cheering starts a little when the refs gather around him and it looks like he's hurt, but the cheering makes a very loud surge the second he falls to his knees the first time after getting up.

Classless.

Joe Benigno on WFAN - A COMPLETE JETS HOMER - is positively KILLING the jets and saying that is EXACTLY what happened. And that it's especially ridiculous given the fact that Chad was "the best jet on the field" yesterday.

Glad you checked it out again. I was wondering if you were getting the same broadcast. My wife was watching the game and the moment that Chad was down, the cheering started. I asked her if she was hearing the same thing I was.

I removed the duct tape from her mouth so she could respond and she said "yes , it's disgusting".

For Week One of the regular season - cheering the injury to Chad. Ha ha. P.S. 38-14.
That was awful. I don't care what kind of spin they try to put on it, they were cheering his injury. I admit, I get myself to the point of despising the opposing players but that stops with the play. But I don't want to see guys get hurt (for the most part ;)). I actually felt bad for Chad and was glad to see him get back on the field. Especially since he's as likely to throw a pic as a TD.

Just embarrassing. Pennington deserves way better.

I remember what happened... I left the man-cave for a refill and got stuck waiting in the living room for the next commercial so I could return to the cave when that series was on, and had to suffer through the teenager rewinding it over and over again so he could watch Chad's leg bend. Distracted me. :)

And a ball-gag doesn't leave a mark like the duct tape. Might be a wise investment. ;)

All teams' fans can be jerks, but if history is any indication, if this had been in Foxboro the fans would've been far more supportive of Chad.

I wa AT the game when Bledsoe got taken out by Moe Lewis. I was a Brady fan and NOT a Bledsoe fan but I did not hear Pats fans cheering Drew's injury. Instead he got applause as he finally rose up after the hit. Of course, none of us realized the severity at the time.

I was at the game, and I just looked at it on Tivo. I have no idea what you are listening to - but you are completely wrong.

All I heard was exclamations of dismay from the people that saw him go down, and general crowd noise from the fans who were not paying attention. There were by my estimate at least 5-10% pats fans there - and many were celebrating the sack.

I know we all hate the Jets (god knows I do), and want to think the worst about the fans, but the fans DID NOT cheer when he fell down, nor when he limped to the sideline. The only cheers came AFTER he was off the field, and Clemons bounced out to take the huddle.

Stop the hate. Karma can be a *****.

Pretty much everyone, including Jet fans, disagrees with you. Mike and the Maddog are pounding the Jet fans over it. Posters over at GangGreen are noting it and pissed about it. The Jets Radio broadcast guys pointed it out and were aghast. I could go on, but you get the point.

Of course you don't understand - the facts don't fit your preconceived notions of what you wanted to happen. As evidenced by your trolling the Jets boards.

If you can't understand that not everyone in the stadium YOUR benefit of watching from a zoomed in TV camera, be able to see through the pack of officials and players, or might be talking to their neighbor asking what happened - well obviously you've never been to a football game.

The entire event happened quickly, and it didn't take the normal course a serious injury event usually takes, i.e. player goes down on the field, medical staff come on, a timeout is called, players move away or go to the sidelines, and the player is helped off the field.

In this case, it appeared he was just shaken up at first - then he went down - and seconds later he's at the sidelines. Seconds after that, Clemons is running out from nearly the same location Chad exited to.

As I said before - the fans did NOT cheer as he hobbled to the sideline.

As far as cheering Clemons, I ask you - what are the Jets fans supposed to do then ? Not cheer on third down ?

If events had taken the normal turn, and there had been a timeout, would it not be appropriate to cheer when the team huddles up with the replacement ?

This is a non-event that has been blown out of proportions by the commentators (sitting 300 feet away in a glass box) and haters (such as Olbermann) who just want someone to look down on.

Mangina is too smart to dump Pennington. Unfortunately, Jets fans are morons.

Pennington is not a bad QB. Not great, but he's not the problem. His health is the only issue.

I sat in line for 2 hours with Jets fans in line for the buses. The guy next to me had a radio, and was listening to the postgame. When someone brought up Sims's comments, everyone in line was like "WTF? - that's not what happened".

People cheered when Clemons came on the field. Not before. That is the fact. You can ascribe whatever motives you think to people who were cheering when Clemons came to the huddle, but if you were there, you can't say they cheered BECAUSE Chad got injured.

Also, there was a huge cheer when Chad came back on the field - something that, after watching the Tivo replay, Sims and company neglected to show or acknowledge.

Believe me, I can't stand Jets fans - and I would be the last person to defend them. But fans have already been tried and convicted in the media. I was there, and I think it is unfair.

Jets fans did it. Some Jets fans have admitted doing it. Other Jets fans are ashamed that it was done.

Here's one comment on it (from gang green):

Well I am a Season Ticket Holder , I want a Superbowl - And I am F***ng embarassed right now to be a Jets Fan.

That was total crap and I told the *******s next to me --- And for a Fact They were Cheering that Chad was Out , Not his effort ot anything Else

No one is admitting that they cheered when he was hobbling off the field - which the idiot talking heads want you to believe. It didn't happen. Thats the truth.

In my section, I did not see or hear one person celebrate that Chad was out. All I heard was shock and dismay as word got passed around that Chad ws hurt. No one was high fiving each other. When Clemons suddenly came on the field, the only cheering I heard were "Lets get it going Jets" or "C'mon Clemons".

Jets fans are upset because they thought they were a 12-6 team this year, and they now realize they are more like 8-8 or worse team. You can't hate the Patriots, because they were so obviously superior in that game. So they are turning on each other. Kinda like the hysteria that happens around here sometimes.

Were some people happy that Clemons got to see the field ? I'm sure there were, and some may feel guilty now, whether they cheered or not. I just don't think that, if you were there, you could generalize and say the crowd was cheering BECAUSE Chad got hurt - especially with the weird and fast way events unfolded.

It is obvious to me that this has been blown way out of proportion by the media - this is red meat to talk radio. If Sims had not said a word, I think you never would have heard anything about this.

p.s. I polled two of the other couples that were at the game - Jets fans - and they think it's a red herring also.

Re-read the quote. The season ticket holder was at the game. He's telling you what the people next to him were cheering about. They were cheering the injury.

And I was listening to the Jets radio feed from WABC. They noted the same thing, as I recall.

Rich Cimini also says that the Jets fans cheered the injury (and is careful to note that it was not all of them). He called the Jets fans a "national embarassment".

Steve Serby wrote "Shame on any classless fan who cheered Pennington going down."

New York writers covering the story also disagree with you. So, that's national AND local media, along with season ticket holders who were at the game and team announcers.

It appears that everyone except you and a few Jets fans in denial heard what was going on. Maybe there is an advantage at the game seeing and hearing certain things that we can't see on TV. But there is an advantage in close ups and sound that people in the stands do not have.

Believe me, their was cheering when it FIRST appeared that Chad was hurt. There was cheering when he went down trying to get off the field. There was cheering when Klemens came in .

How can so many people be wrong and you be right? Give it up. It has nothing to do with hatred of the Jets . It is what it is.
