FEARLESS PREDICTION: Moss re-ups

This isn't as knee-jerk as it sounds as I have been saying this for weeks now - and I'm not saying this situation definitely WON'T blow up at some point. I just think from what I understand of Moss, his background, what he has historically responded to (WINNING, not being THE guy, structure, etc...), he will WANT to be here.

A lot of people have posted, even as off-hand comments, that he's just here to get his rep back and to lead to the big pay day - I honestly don't think so. I think Randy LIKES it here. I think he wants to be here, I think he wants Brady as his QB, he wants the structure, he wants to win. I think this is more true of Moss than it was of Dillon.

My prediction - sometime soonafter the season, if not in the MIDDLE of this season, Moss and the Pats will agree to a 3-year extension, keeping him here with Brady as his QB and BB as his coach, for most of the rest of his career.

Moss made me forget about Stanley Morgan for a minute today - BUT ..

I want to see how Moss reacts when Stallworth or Welker are having the 100yard days and Moss is called in just a few plays and gets 10 yards,Then we will see how he reacts ,Whcih I don't think will be any problem but I want to see it first.

Moss will NOT get 183 Yards every sunday and we know that,so enjoy these RARE performances,WRs don't get that type of Yardage on more than a game or two all season....Unless your name is Jerry Rice or Raymond Berry ect:

I think the team work on Asante before Moss and less than a week after the season- Unless you think Asante will be a former player once 2007 ends

I don't disagree with this and it's a really good point.

My suspicion, however, is that he will revel in the opportunity to "behave" in this situation, as well. And that's part of why I wanted to point out that this thread was not intended to be just a knee-jerk reaction to his outstanding performance today. I've felt this, perhaps baselessly, for weeks now. He just seems like a weird-ass misfit, who has found a situation that lines up with PRECISELY what he's always responded to. I really think he'll stay, 180+ yards/game or not.

Most receivers never get 183 yards in their career, even good ones, it was Moss' 3rd highest in his career, and it has been a HoF career.

It's way early, but we might have something Randy needs which is respect and a sense of belonging. He'll get his money too, but don't discount getting those intangible needs filled as a motivation.

I hate to use this example, but if stern daddy Tuna wasn't around, I think Glenn would have been a head case casualty. No father in his life, from what I understand....

BB has done a lot of work on patrol and with Jim brown trying to get into the psychology of kids very foreign to his background.

Being a respected team player might give Randy something he can't buy with a dollah....

One other thing to take into account. Moss just tutned 30........ he's reached the legacy part of his career. In Brady, he knows there is someone that can help he be the reciever he has always envisioned himself to be. I'm sure like most great WR, He wants to be considered one the greatest of all time. To be that, you are dependant on a large part, to your QB. Moss is smart enough to understand that, this time around. He doesn't need freakish stats all the time. He wants his ring, he wants a team, he wants a coach like BB who cares only about football.

I've always felt that Moss coming here was a "perfect storm" of sorts. In many ways, Moss and Dillon are not dissimilar that way. Both misunderstood. Both gifted, both needed to be a part of something great.

I would not be at all surprised to see Moss re-up at some point this year.

Listen, he was slightly, slighty, a focal point. The offense never went out of it's way to feature him.

He simply got open and made catches.

The forced downfield approaches that we are accustomed to didn't fall incomplete, they were caught.

He wasn't thrown to 15 times. He was simply Randy Moss. Best receiver in the NFL. Coupled with the best QB in the NFL = win. Get used to it.

when he first got signed he had some quote about how he's got money and he's here to win which means signing a contract that would be cap friendly is a possibility. it'd be neat but i'm not holding my breath it's a business.

Moss may be the exception to the general rule that in the Patriot system no receiver is worth top dollar.

I'd bet Belichick told Moss he wanted him to be a leader on the Patriots...that he possessed that quality but he needed to walk the walk. Saying something like that to a guy like Moss would be the ultimate compliment to him and make him WANT to be such player.

If all things are equal - i.e. "The Money" - there's no reason why Moss wouldn't re-up.

But do I think the Patriots next season are going to offer Moss the most lucrative long term contract out there, and that there won't be a worse off more desparate team willing to over pay for him?

No - you're kidding yourself if you think there aren't plenty of teams out there who would dramatically overpay for him - especially if he consistently does what he did for him.

That's the best point, I don't remember any drops. Sure, there will be, but not yesterday. He had the best day in a crowded field of receivers than anyone has ever had with Brady. He has great speed and phenomenal moves. He appears perfectly in sync with Brady and reads the coverage beautifully.

Get used to it.

It was one game. Yes, he's really, really good, but the Jets secondary is not Denver's or Baltimore's. Stallworth had one catch, that will not be the norm. Gaffney left a TD on the field and I don't think Brady went back to him after that.

These other receivers and the running game will have their days as well and on those days Moss wll appear less important, though I believe he will remain important.

The call to re-up him is strongest after a game like this and will weaken in games where Stallworth outruns the coverage deep and Gaffney reads the DB's inside leverage and Welker keeps his feet and doesn't drop passes. Still, I would want them to re-up Moss except for two questions:

1. Will he become Dillon after a fresh, new contract?

2. Will he be durable?

Can't answer these after one game.

I commented on Moss re-upping about a month ago. Why wouldn't he. Where else is he going to go and find the happiness he has here as a football player.
He's not going to go to a bad team that offers him megabucks, been there, done that. How about a good team with a good qb? Sorry, he's got Tom. So that leaves a very good team with a very good qb, and offering a lot of $. The money is not an issue and he already has everything else.
