Re: Reiss: Stallworth in on only 9 plays

I think it was just part of the gameplan, we used mainly 2 guys in the recieving game. I think he will have some big weeks, maybe next week. Gaffney and Washington seem to be the guys who are in during the running plays though. Kelley was very good on special teams today.

Re: Reiss: Stallworth in on only 9 plays

With Moss beating triple teams who cares if stallworth was in for 9 plays, he will get his chances as the year comes around...if anything he will definately get his share of one on ones now that Moss torched a good Jets secondary.....
2 more things....

1. When Pennington collapsed, was I the only one thinking about those idiots that were calling for the Jets to take out Brady on a Jets Message board??

2. Im such an idiot, I actually thought Moss wouldnt start when I set my FF team on wednesday, and switched him out of my actives to my reserve for Anthony Gonzalez(IND) who had 0 catches.....

That is brutal that you didn't start Moss. I would get rid of Gonzalez, if I were you BTW.

Re: Where was Stallworth??

Stallworth's time will come. Who's featured will vary from week to week based on who we're playing.
Eventually, they will try to do a better job covering Moss or Welker, then Stallworth will have his day. Or else Maroney will run for 250 yards. This is really picking nits.

Re: Where was Stallworth??

It was encouraging to see Donte smiling on the sidelines, jabbering with his teammates, including Moss, even when he wasn't an integral part of the attack today. That showed me he's 'getting it' as a Patriot and his time WILL come.

Well I hope you are at least happy Gonz had 0 catches.

Re: Reiss: Stallworth in on only 9 plays

120 WR participations on 65 offensive snaps?
That's fewer than 2WRs on the field per play.

Gaffney's high count is the second surprise.

btw, Kelley Washington WAS a factor on special teams.

Good point. SOMEBODY is going to have low numbers of reps when that happens ...

The unanswered question is why did Gaffney get so many reps and Stallworth so few.

That is encouraging then. So he didn't seem disgruntled or left out at any point? That is my only concern at this point: trying to keep them all satisfied.

Stallworth may regret coming to the Pats for the very reasons mentioned in this thread, but all those feelings will go away if he gets a ring.

I really don't think so. If he isn't a major part of our offense, he'll be looking for a job.

Stallworth will get his,I trust BB....Chargers DC will be up all week....

Re: Where was Stallworth??

Stallworth only makin' one catch, not really concerning me too much.

Exactly - look at the YPC - note that he was a defensive concern when on the field - that's his impact.

Moss was the featured WR today - that's part of a gameplan IMO to establish his return to credibility and give DC's fits from hereon out - and to ensure that Stallworth, Watson and Welker can benefit from Moss' double and tripple covereages in the future.

I'd keep in mind that Moss's catch total might come back down to earth as Stallworth's and Watsons increase as well.

But for Stallworth (or moss) given 16 games, all one should be looking for is an average of 3 catches per game at 18-20 ypc to have their desired impact.

That's 48 catches in a season... anything around that area is a MAJOR success and upgrade from last year. So the fact that Stallworth caught 1 pass and not 3 is not a concern.

Re: Reiss: Stallworth in on only 9 plays

It also could be that, as Gresh or Tanguay mentioned on the postgame, that the Pats want to keep the tape level down on Stallworth for the Chargers to keep them off-balance.

I like Gresh but this is idiotic. The Patriots play to win the current game not to come up with oh so clever decoy for next weeks opponent.

I think Stallworth will be fine. The Patriots have never really been able to integrate the pure speed receiver into their offense (Johnson, Davis, etc.) so give it some time. Stallworth is clearly much better than these guys and may be one of those guys who only catches 30-40 balls but gets 5 TDs of 40 yards+.

Moss is in a different league, if he is missing the whole offense changes. Stallworth contributions, although appreciated, can easily be replaced.

I thought he was just a decoy and didn't get the ball a lot, I didn't realize how few plays he was actually in on. Interesting...I wonder why?

Someone mentioned the fact that we didn't use a lot of WR sets when they divided the total number of WR snaps by the number of offensive plays.

I read in an article that the Pats played 3TE sets 12 times and 2TE sets 28 times.... that's 40 plays out of 65 where we probably only had (at most) 2 WRs out there.

The game plan was to pound the ball at the Jets and make them bring their safeties up then go deep on them. It worked! Even on some plays where we knew we wanted to pass, we lined up in a formation that looked to be a run and then did play-action passing.

There will be other gameplans that call for 3+ WR spreads and Stallworth will get his chance. Gaffney and Washington are better blockers, so their greater number of snaps makes sense... even though neither got a lot of reception yards.

They probably will unleash stealth jet #2 (Stallworth):singing: this sunday against the Chargers. We will see.
