How high is Cassel? Is he one of the top 2 or 3 backups in the league?

I think he could start for about 1/2 the teams in the league.

Top 2 or 3? pffffffffffffffffffffffffffffft. I am hoping this is some sort of joke.

Sure dude, you must be drank.

Top 2 or 3 on the Pats, maybe.

Cassell sucks IMO -End of story

The only reason we even talk about this guy is because he is wearing a Patriots uniform, otherwise this guy would be a joke in this forum,He will be a career 3rd or 4th QB elsewhere-Why do I say this? - Cause nothing I have really seen either in preseason or in garbage time tells me otherwise - Show me something than the usual wacky ducks he throws.

I think BB likes him or he wouldn't have him around but why? - Who knows? - Maybe there aren't any real decent backups available too often

Best backup QBs? - I'll take Croyle in KC (I think the kids not bad and is underated)
and I hate to say this but if hes healthy Culpepper is right up there

BB picked him and in BBWT :D :rocker:

So he's definitely pro-bowl material.

Do you think we should trade him for 2 #1s before his rookie contract is up?

Technically they could use a franchise tag on him to keep him here, or as part of a 'tag and trade', do you think it would work?

I agree. There is no way that we would even mention Cassel if he played elsewhere.

As for Culpepper, I think that he would start on most teams if properly healthy, which he doesn't seem to have been for a long time.

I agree that the 2004 vintage Culpepper would start for most teams, but so would the 1987 vintage Joe Montana. :) Them days are gone.

It's nearly impossible to judge the best backup QBs because you never get a glimpse of the guys behind a Brady or Manning. So with the rare exception of a guy like Matt Schaub, we end up pointing to players like Culpepper because we've seen them on the field. But that just means we're choosing among the guys who've already managed to lose a starting job through ineffectiveness!

Cassell isn't great, and doesn't suck and isn't worth a pair of #1s. He is a serviceable game management type backup to one of the best QBs in NFL history. He was selected and developed by one of the best coaches in NFL history.

What do you people want?? Steve Young off the bench?? Name me ANY QB that garnered a pair of #1 picks?? Favre was a SINGLE #1.

Reality check please.

Rohan > Huard

Cassel > Rohan

Ergo: Cassel > Huard ;)

That is hardly the end of the story, regardless of your opinion.

You clearly didn't watch pre-season this year. Particularly the Giants game or the Carolina game. Cassel played very well against the Giants 1st stringers. Cassel also played extremely well in 2005 when he played against Miami. But, why would you want to listen to the facts when you have your opinion.

You sit there and pummel Cassel and then praise CROYLE? WOW...

Rohan > Huard

Sorry, this isn't fact. Rohan NEVER beat Huard for the #2 spot. The Pats TRIED to spoon feed the #2 spot to Rohan and all he did was puke it up on them. Its why Huard was the #2 during the 2004 play-off run and Davey wasn't. In all honesty, letting Huard go was a mistake.

Cassel > Rohan

Ergo: Cassel > Huard ;)

Cassel beat out Rohan in the same camp. Rohan never beat out Huard.

It is surprising how many Day 1 picks are backups now.

Boller, Carr, Rodgers, Quinn, Batch (I am probably missing a few others).

With Warner, Feeley, Griese, Brad Johnson, and Volek available as backups, I can't rank Cassell above 7 of the above.

But this is just my opinion.

I put Cassel at about 6. Brad Johnson has looked horrible so far this year. Rodgers hasn't run Favre out of town yet. Feeley was never great. And Quinn is still an unknown, though Quinn could end up playing here in the next few weeks.

Griese
Leftwich
Garcia
Quinn
Volek
Culpepper
Carr

Are a few that I would take over Cassell.

Oops,

Add Batch and Feeley too. Not even top ten, but hopefully you guys won't have to test this theory.

Who the heck knows where he ranks?? Nobody knows.
He wouldn't be starting for any team in the NFL unless there are injuries.
Doesn't mean he can't become a good QB. Seems kinda smart. Might actually become a star for all we know.

You people keep falling for mcbee's reverse logic Cassel is worth crap threads. What a bunch of dummies...

BTW half of the so-called backups mentioned are/were starters who are either being groomed to replace the guys starting today, or being rehabbed in hopes they can start again because they have already failed miserably, or they are aging JAGS clawing for one last shot at landing/regaining a starting job. All of that makes none of them a fit for this team. And that's before we even get into their lack of capacity or intangibles so significant in running a BB offense...

Of all the guys mentioned, I think Cassel is the best backup for this team, and that's really all that I care about. Quinn might be a good fit too, since Charlie groomed him in this offense, only since he wants to start in less than 8 years and cost a first, I'll pass on him over Cassel too. :D

Just Before Brady's first NFL start, I'm sure he would be pretty low on this list as well.

we just don't know, same with Clemons we just don't know.
sorry jets jets jets.

p.s. But we do know Brady is better than Pennington!!!

I don't think there's a way for us to really rank him since he's never really seen game action (End of the game andMiami last game of the year excluded).

Hopefully he won't get a shot any time soon but he could be Brady light or Ryan Leaf.
