Asante must be activated before 4pm today (Saturday)

Will Belichick activate him and will he play?

Does he deserve to play in the first game or do we go with Hobbs and maybe Merriweather or Gay at the other corner spot and let the overpaid whiner sit till SD next week?

If he's in game shape and good to go, then he should start. The guy's always played well against the Jets and first and foremost, you have to win divisional games. This game matters more than the SD game.

According to John Tomase, he didn't have a travel bag in front of his locker. Tom Casale and Andy Hart on Michael Felger's radio show speculated that it was a red herring from Belichick. They are convinced Belichick likes to throw these red herrings not for the competition of the week, but to play games with the media.

If ***ante doesn't travel to the NYJ, then he should give his $500K game check back to the NEP.

That his availability is even in doubt is exactly the reason why he should have reported to camp a fortnight sooner than he did.

I bet you were saying the Jets were a 'blip' last year in the regular season at Foxborough - NO game is ever a gimme and I am sure the team is not taking the Jets for granted nor lightly

What would be the point of beating SD if we were to lose divisional games and not make the playoffs? Ideally, the Pats will beat both teams, but first and foremost, you have to win your division before worrying about how overall and head to head records will determine your playoff seating.

And as I said, if Asante is healthy to go and in game shape, then he should start. I just don't see the point of benching or sitting a guy who's tallied three of his 16 career INTs, ran back two of those INTs for TDs with a force fumble thrown in for good measure all against the Jets. It's no knock against Gay who I'm sure will also see plenty of action even if Asante starts.

I don't think "deserve" is the right word. This isn't little league. If he's ready to help the team win, he'll be there. Otherwise he won't.

Like I said I think Asante WILL in fact start or at least mix it up most of the game with Gay in and out.

And it would not surprise me in the least if we see a little of Merriweather at corner just to see how the kid plays in an unusual position for him - I don't think BB threw him there in preseason just for the hell of it or just because Asante was not there,I think it may be for versatility BB loves in his rookies,A few plays at corner may be possible.

If Revis is playing in the jets backfield I want to see Merriweather as well - either at CB or Safety but don't think he will play safety at all this game,Wilson and Sanders should handle that dept.

I agree, it is not about deserving, it is about being ready and in game form to help this team.. if he is not, he will spend the weekend in Foxborough.. the whole game bag thing is a smokescreen.. maybe it is in the equipment room, maybe he is not going.. all part of the Pats mystique..

Didn't they already trim the roster down so that activating AS does not require a cut? Didn't Poteat play the same week he was watching tv in his living room? I figure he's gonna play.

Not only to play in 1 game but not even for a full 60 minutes on the field- Especially if the offense dominates and controls the time of possession!

You serious? Coles and Cotch TORCHED that secondary last year with Samuel and Seymour in, I dont think you want to see what happens in a game without Samuel, Harrison, and Seymour(you're best DL pass rusher).

It seems like evryone thinks he will play...and I DO hope he is ready to play..but I wonder how realistic that is, considering his only few days of practicing. And what if he plays, is really no ready to and is burned?? The equipment bag may be a smokescreen..we will find out soon enough...I hope he is ready..but I really think that might be too optimistic.

Forget deserve to play!! BB will (and should) play the guys who have the best chance to give us a win - and I am sure Asante is one of those guys. Suppose (God forbid) Hobbs or Gay gets hurt during the game? Wouldn't you want Asante active (even if he isn't 100% ready to go all out) just in case?
