Did I hear Felger accuse Rodney of taking steroids?

Just came back from running an errand and listening to the same old J.D. Drew discussion that continues unabated even a few days before the Pats play the Jets. J.D. Drew stood on center stage on both WEEI and ESPN.

Suddenly there was a brief interruption for football and I heard Felger say that Rodney Harrison was so quick to admit his guilt on HGH and he had such a perfect speech so well put together that he had to be hiding something else. Felger didn't say what, exactly, choosing only to leave us with that suspicious hint.

I'm pretty sure that's what Felger said. It's radio, it comes and goes so quickly that it's hard to be certain, but I thought that's what he said and I was in shock.

Damned if you do and damned if you don't. That's right, Rodney was so quick to admit his guilt and cooperate with the authorities that he must have been hiding something else. What, did Felger spoke with Florio's cousin? Where else would he get such ideas?

Will someone, anyone, please send Felger's home address to Rodney Harrison? And take pictures.

Harrison is a top player who has been suspended for violating NFL drug rules. He will be subject to increased team, NFL and media scrutiny scrunity for the rest of his career. There will be rumors and more rumors for as long as he is associated with the NFL.

HGH is not a steroid or a form of a steroid. The ONLY thing they have in common is that they are both horomones. But that doesn't make one a form of the other. Its like saying: "All squares are rectangles, but not all rectangles are squares."

He'll sit out four games, and everyone will move on. The interesting thing to look for will be Rodney's performance four games from Sunday.

The issues are
1) That a top NFL player knowingly violated the substance abuse rules.
2) The violation was sufficient to warrent a 4 game suspesion.
3) The player is a patriot, and was a locker room leader and a role model

To some here, #3 seems to mean that Harrison should get a pass. You might convince me that you would have the same attitude if the offender were Bob Sanders, but I doubt it.

I suppose you might google "HGH abuse" and see why sports authorities might ban the substance. But that is not the issue either. The fact is that one of OUR team's poster boys cheated and got caught. After all that the Kraft's have tried to do to avoid this kind of nonesense has failed, even among our very best.

Yes, i have a problem with the word "drug".
Because it is NOT a "neutral word". It is one of the most highly-charged words in public discourse in our society.
This "d-word" should no more be flippantly tossed about than the "f-word" or the "n-word". Them's fightin words!

"Almost all drugs", as you assert, are certainly NOT natural substances.
NONE of what are termed drugs occur in nature.
Perhaps you are thinking that all drugs are formed from some combination of the atomic elements. That's true enough.
The complex combinations of these elements - the MOLECULES - that do form "drugs", and many other chemicals
occur only under laboratory or industrial conditions.
Humans have to make them. They are all synthetic ... artificial.

Unlike, say, aspirin (not to mention Viagra) ... Human Growth Hormone
is produced by every human being, internally.
Cocaine ... methamphetamine ... alcohol ... trinitrotoluene ... and Sweet Baby Ray's barbeque sauce are not.
Incidentally, do you consider your blood a drug?

He admits that he broke the league rules.
I am railing against those league rules ... for the benefit of many future, injured, players.
I have not typed a word against the suspension.

If it had appeared to me that "most here" did support Harrison, then i would not have felt the need to mount my high horse.
Alas, my sense of the posts on this topic is that a preponderant majority of Patsfans
feel personally betrayed and embarrassed by Rodney.

I can't believe how many people either missed the point or chose to ignore it. This isn't about whether Harrison violated NFL drug policy or should get a free pass. I remain a fan of the man, but he is guilty and should suffer the consequences, including the disgrace.

This is about a media personality (or lack thereof) who heard that a player promptly confessed, apologized and cooperated, in a world where the guilty routinely lie before congress and to the face of the NFL commissioner, and this media personality interpreted an act of honesty as a basis for accusing Harrison of more and greater infractions.

It was truly Floriesque.

BTW, psychoPat, you're bending my mind with those self-serving definitions. If a doctor prescribes it and you get it at a pharmacy (or order it online from some shady operation), it's a drug. I don't care if it's HGH, insulin, cortisone, or if you pop it, inject it or smoke it. They're all drugs, man, ain't it cool?

The idea that a prepared statement by Harrison means anything is as damning an indictment of Felger's mental capacity as I've seen. Harrison had known this was coming for quite a while, he had days to put it together. (Not that it probably took more than a couple of hours for Harrison or someone else to write it anyway, apparently Felger believes there is some magical talent sportswriters have that allows them to write postgame stories in time to make the morning paper yet mere mortals can't write anything legible in under a week.) Harrison was making the statement via telephone, so of course he was using prepared notes. It means nothing at all.

I also think people are completely missing why Harrison mentioned steroids as opposed to HGH. The clue is when he said he knows he's a role model for kids. There is a definite steroids problem among young people, there is no similar HGH problem (because of cost and lack of availability). Rodney quite commendably doesn't want any kid taking steroids because he thinks Rodney did. That's why he said that, not as any sort of an excuse.
