I think this may be the year where opposing teams coaches and owners finally take notice of how good Green is.

I think he will play so well that the front line will not miss Seymour as much as the media doomsdayers say we will.

My fear is that he plays so well that someone comes up with an offer to try and take him away to be a starter on their line,I have never been more confident as a Patriots fan to have a player come off the bench and take over a crucial position on the D-Line like I do with JG,He is a special player and the best backup lineman in the league.

Remember he was not even a starter last year but still ended up 2nd on the team with 7 1/2 sacks - How many can he get with a full 6 games to play or more if Sey is still not able to play on week 7?

All I can say is rest yourself well Richard Seymour and don't come back till you are near 100% better - We will be just fine until you can play without any problems with that knee holding you back.

Just for the record-how often whenever we, as fans, see injury lists that are a MILE long, and we say to ourself, "This such and such team has NO chance 'cuz look at ALL these injuries??". And the next thing you know, this so-called "injury-plagued" team wins big.

Look at the Colts last year-despite losing their 2 DTs, their MLB, Bob Sanders for a good part of the year, etc, they managed to go 12-4 and then finish the rest in postseason.

This is not to say injuries have no key whatsoever, but there are many, many factors for a team's success.

Jarvis updated his website a few days ago and talks a little about starting the season
For me, the season begins with a new role. I'm starting at defensive end with Richard Seymour on PUP for six weeks. I am looking forward to that. We all wish Richard could play, but we have to get better as a unit. We have to work collectively to play good football.

For me, I've started 21 games in five seasons. To start the season on the field, it gives me a great chance to get out there and get into a rhythm right away. I know I'm going to play 60 minutes. I have to be ready mentally and physically.

I still remember from the 2004 season, when the Patriots were hosting the Colts in the divisional playoff round, and Seymour was out for the game. Green stepped in and the defense didn't skip a beat. It flat out dominated the best offense in football and held them without a touchdown in a year where Peyton Manning shattered the passing touchdown record.

Green is good enough to start for many NFL teams and the Pats are blessed to have him. The defense will be fine.

Wasn't he the guy that Lou Gehrig replaced?

Makes you wonder if 40 years down the road people will say "Wasn't he the guy that Tom Brady replaced?" when the name Drew Bledsoe comes up.

Wasn't jarvis Green one of the guys that was voted by other teams as most difficult to defense in previous years?? He will be fine, may have some issues with the run.. but with our LB corps he will be able to do the job.

My favorite game I've ever seen in person.

I remember when we resigned him and the common wisdom was that we over paid to keep a back up.

I don't get to too many games nowadays.

I've had one ever. And the Pats won. (Bills at Foxborough, 1989) Soon to be two (Eagles in November). Should they win I'm planning to apply for the post of lucky charm, and have Bob Kraft's jet bring me in for all key games in future.

I don't think we should be getting carried away with the thought of "7 1/2 sacks as a backup = loads as a starter". As a backup (well, really situational player as opposed to pure backup), he's placed in situations where he gets to rush the passer and get sacks. As a starter he'll be called on to do far more. I fully expect him to do great, and I'm excited to see how he fares. But I don't expect big numbers.

I always loved Green. I always thought he was a good player with great potential. I wouldn't doubt to see him have a break through year, he's due.

Green is signed through 2009, same as Seymour.
