RUMORS FLY THAT SEYMOUR WILL MISS THE SEASON

A league source tells us that there are rumors on the NFL grapevine that Patriots defensive end Richard Seymour will miss the entire 2007 season.

Per the source, the talk is that offseason surgery on Seymour's left knee resulted in some significant complications.

Seymour is on the Physically Unable to Perform list, and by rule must stay there for at least six weeks of the regular season.

The procedure was described as arthroscopic, which is minimally invasive in nature. The type of complication currently is unknown.

Hopefully this turns out to be as true as the "Randy Moss to be cut" rumors which came from the same place.

Just saw it. I'm starting to get fed up with Florio and these BS rumors. First Randy Moss is cut, then Belichick is going to get nailed for tampering, now Seymour's leg is going to fall off...it's gotta end somewhere. I know it's a rumor site, but there needs to be at least a little smoke and the occasional fire to have them retain any credibility. So far the only thing they've had is the raging inferno that was Michael Vick, and any brain-dead idiot could see that one coming.

Whatever. We win anyway. No distractions. Move forward. Guys need to step up. oh, and also - Moss made the team and this rumor is likely bull****.

This is ridiculous.

Who is telling him this ****.

PFT is reporting a RUMOR that is going around the NFL. It is a RUMOR MILL. I don't know how many time we have to point out this obvious FACT. Relax.

I believe rumors when they actually turn out to be true.

I love when Florio posts about the Colts and Chargers being in trouble it's always "He's so right."

But whenever he hears something negative from his myriad sources about the Pats, everyone abandons ship and claims it's just a bunch of crap.

I'm not saying Florio is always right, because he isn't. But Rumor Mill isn't exactly the right name for his site. His sources have been shown to be good enough that they're usually more than rumors.

But we shouldn't be so quick to dismiss anything he says if it's negative about the Pats. It happens EVERY time I post something from PFT. I can usually predict that the first three posts will be "What a load of BS. That's just a rumor."

Guys, who knows what's going on with these rumors, I wouldn't be shocked if BB spread the rumor himself. We'll go week by week, but don't go nuts on Florio, he just reports rumors. We can't get so damn defensive when it is about the Patriots. We are the team to beat right now and people are craving for news about us, so I'm sure Florio reports as often as he can about the Pats. It's no big deal.

There's been a TON of angst and fury directed at Florio and PFT the last few days - I'm guessing borne of nerves. Relax. We'll see what happens with Seymour. I wouldn't put it past the Patriots AT ALL to fuel some of these rumors - they hate being seen as infallible and "on top," so maybe this stuff takes the heat off a bit. What do they care?

I hate to say this but I heard elsewhere that Seymour might not be ready after week six. Borges was talking about it on Sports Extra on Sunday night. I know Borges hates Belichick, but he tends to have some good sources with some of the players.

now Seymour's leg is going to fall off

Rumor has it Payton going to use this in yet another hilarious television commercial.

Tis a good point, nice to see it come from a MOD. Course, a lot of fans of other teams act the same way. We love writers who have nice things to say about our team, but show disdain when they are negative. What I ask about Big Sey is, obviously, regardless of how long he's out, he's out a minimum of 6, if he's out 6, then appears something went wrong. I cannot imagine BB and Co. just want to rest the guy.

I know. I dismissed him when he said Randy Moss was going to be cut, and look what happened. Reche Caldwell was cut!!!!!! And so was Bam Childress and Kelvin Kight!!!!!

He isn't spreading rumors. He's making them up. He's like Felger: anything that will get people to listen to him or talk about him is good.

I agree. Florio and PFT are the same as they always were. They just have rumors that we don't want to hear now. Granted now that I said Borges said that Seymour may be out longer than six weeks, people will say that Borges is friendly with Felger who is friendly with Florio and that Borges and Felger made up this rumor.

And I wouldn't be surprised. Seymour hasn't been fully healthy since early in 2004. He missed that time in 2004 including the Colts and Steelers playoff games. Then he missed time with another knee injury in 2005. Then he had that elbow injury in 2006. Missed the Pro Bowl. Then he had the knee surgery this offseason, and he's already down at least 6 games this season, probably 7 or 8 if he's lucky.

I just want the old Sey back - the dominant one. He really didn't deserve to go to the Pro Bowl over Warren last year, and he'll probably miss it again this year.

I'm not at all saying it's Sey's fault - injuries happen. But it's just really getting frustrating to see him miss game after game.

Oh ha ha - and we know how much Borges loves Seymour!! It must be true!

I disagree. Tomase was hearing the same rumor - they were certainly out there, whether spread by the Pats or not.

Don't kill the messenger. The only thing Florio makes up himself is his analysis on the situations. But all the material is provided by existing reports or league sources.

When was the last time that Florio got a Pats rumor that was anywhere in the ballpark even, that wasn't reported by someone else first? I can't think of one that springs to mind off the bat. Unlike, with say, the Colts, and Booger McFarland being out, or Merriman and steroids. When it comes to the Pats, it seems like he just throws stuff up there and prays something sticks, and it rarely if ever does. So we should be quick to dismiss stuff he says about the Pats, positive or negative, because he has a horrendous track record concerning them.
