Re: Randy Moss... the most potent Wide Receiver the Patriots have since...?

If Moss is at 80% capacity, try "Ever."

Come on. As good as Moss is, he's not in the same class as Stanley Morgan.

Moss may be the most potent WR since Branch... next in line I.Fryar. I think Terry Glenn falls just short of Branch level. It's possible that Moss will be better than Branch, but I'm not banking on it.

I can't believe people are forgetting about Terry Glenn. I mean people have mentioned him in their posts but don't list him as their 1st choice. Glenn and Bledsoe had a good thing going until management fell apart.

That's a very tough argument.

I love Morgan alot, but he's a notch below Moss in my book talent-wise. I do wish Moss had Morgan's personality though.

Are you out of your mind?
Glenn had a good rookie year, then couldn't stay on the field for the next 3. He had a pretty year 5, then lost his mind.
MANAGEMENT FELL APART?????????? What does that mean? Management caused him to fail drug tests, refuse to pee in a bottle, refuse to show up for practice and act like a jerk?
Management dispensed of him and his antics, and what happened that year? Oh, yeah, they won the SB.

Glenn had 2 good seasons and 4 seasons of severe disappointment in NE. Its insulting to the other WRs who have played here to put him on that list.

Terry Glenn was insanely talented. He was also a little ... well, insane. But for pure talent, it's hard to top that guy.

Of course, talent don't mean anything without production. And for a career, Morgan was awesome, but the best season I've ever seen a wide receiver have was Mr. Troy Brown in 2001. An awesome display, the MVP of that Super Bowl year without a doubt in my mind.

Overall for a career, Morgan is clearly the best Patriots WR. But if we're going to be judging Moss on one year, he'll have a tough time topping Brown, the best WR Marshall has ever produced.

I think Brown was even better in 2002, before getting injured.
Its easy to forget how productive he was in 00-02 since he stayed around 5 more years in a lesser role, but in 2001, we had Brown, Patten and NO ONE else to throw to.

As far as Glenn, aside from above the shoulders, his biggest flaw was being so brittle. Again time has a habit of revising history but from 97-99 Glenn just couldn't stay on the field. A much less talented player who actually was out there playing football would have made us a better team.

What do you base this is on? Past records, athletic achievements or heresay? All I can say is that if Stanley Morgan would have had the opportunity to play with Brady, it would be comparable to Montana and Rice, but of course I hope to be saying that about Moss and Brady at season's end.

dont forget Bam Bam Childress

moss is by far the most talented wr the patriots have ever had jus compare all his career stats at the age of 30 to all of the other notables totals, and moss had some garbage ass qbs hes made look like stars, but if you mean as a patriot that remains to be seen as of now, but I think he'll show himself to be the best in time

Uh what? Brown the best WR Marshall ever produced? Don't get me wrong I love Brown but to say he's the best WR Marshall ever produced and not Moss is ridiculous.

I would say that Morgan was way better than the top 15 WR in his time. I'd put him in the top 5 or 6. I'd also put him ahead of guys like Carmichael, Clayton, or Chandler, or Wes Walker. Yeah, those guys caught more passes but none of them came close in YPC. Jerry Rice and a few others were better (Steve Largent, etc.) but definitely not 15 guys.

Moss is the most talented receiver to ever play the game. Not the best (that belongs to Jerry Rice, who is the single best player of all time), but the most athletically gifted and talented. This team has never had a receiver the caliber of Randy Moss.

On paper, Moss is the best receiver the Pats have ever had. In reality, to be determined.

On talent, I agree completely..............

In production, we'll have to see. He doesn't belong in the same sentence as those guys for the time being though.

Re: Randy Moss... the most potent Wide Receiver the Patriots have since...?

Based upon pure potential and raw WR talent, not production, in order the best WR's we've had in the past 30 years:

Moss
Morgan
Fryar
Glenn
Branch

and of course.....

Reeeeeshaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyy!!!!!

Stingley Stallworth

I thought we were talking about Randy Moss circa 2007, not the Randy Moss in his prime that we never had on our team.

Lets say, moss talent cup is 80% of what it was in his prime. On paper, that probably still ranks up with the talent of any receiver we've ever had. Let's not forget, from a pure talent perspective, Randy may be one of the top 3-4 EVER to have played in the NFL.

Again, as we've seen, particularly with Randy, production doesn't always match ones God-given talent.

Why would you be so arrogant to think my judgement is based on heresay.

Morgan as great as he was, had somewhat of a benefit of being in an offense that ran the ball 70% of the time. That's a big part of the reason why his ypc was so high.

Moss's ypc is pretty high considering he was double covered a majority of his career.

I'm not totally denegrating Morgan here. I just believe Moss is a notch above him, which is pretty high praise IMHO.
