Hey Cowboys fan here. I would like to know some info on this kid is he any good or could you guys care less to see him go.

Oh and by the way it's gonna be Cowboy/Patriots in the Superbowl.

I think we all have a ton of faith that Belichick knows what he's doing, but a lot of us are disappointed because we REALLY liked what we saw from Justin Rogers this pre-season. Our disappointment - or, at least, mine - is mitigated somewhat by the knowledge that Rogers didn't necessarily get caught up in a numbers game here. There was a spot available if Belichick really-really wanted him. Clearly he didn't.

Still, he's a nice player, IMO. Congrats.

I agree...disappointed...where does he seem on the Cowboy depth chart now? More as a developmental player?? Do they have others like him in the mix??

I wasn't disappointed. Sure he made some good plays, but he was this years flavor of the month for preseason like Patrick Cobbs has been and many others. Good luck with him and hopefully he pans out but I'll take AD.

well pats726 he is on are 53 and I think he is going to play a pretty decent role because we are still not sure about Greg Ellis' leg injury, and if Demarcus Ware got hurt we'd be in trouble.

But is he more of a pure pass rusher or more of a run stopping linebacker??

You've got someone even better headed down to Dallas in the next coupla weeks. He's a kid by the name of Albert Breer. He's a sports writer, and a damned fine one at that. In fact, he's had one of the best columns going with his "tale of the tape" reports.

Thing is, the kid really knows his stuff, and he's not afraid to tell it as he sees it. He's very fair, and extremely knowledgeable about football. Add to that that his writing is very readable, very enjoyable, and you're going to have a real treat to read during the week.

He was quite popular hereabouts, and, fwiw, I personally hope that whoever is responsible for losing his servoces to the Boston Herald gets a swift kick in the rear, along with a pink slip to the face.

You've got a solid 6th round OLB prospect, who is a pretty good special teamer. He isn't a run-stopper. He hasn't the body or the experience.

Almost all posters here expected him to make the 53 man squad, based on his pre-season performance. We think that you got a good developmetal player. But he isn't replacing Ware anytime soon.

I too thought Rogers would make the 53 as the 4th OLB. He'll contribute on special teams this year and will get some downs as a situational pass-rusher. If his strength improves, he could develop into a weak-side starter in 3-4 years.

Actually, Rogers stinks.

For the good of the Cowboys, you should start a drive to get Rogers released ASAP.

In football years, but I'm using TBC as a model. If you knew you could draft a rookie who'd start for you in 3-4 years, wouldn't that be worth it? For instance, if Bam makes the team next year and catches 30+ passes, wasn't it worth it to keep him around?

I could be way off on this, but I think Rogers could be a starter in 3+ years, depending on his competition. Not an all-pro, but a solid starter. Optimistic, but possible.

From what I saw, and keep in mind that this is mostly based on preseason games in which he went against second and third stringers, Rogers is much better coming off the edge, beating OLmen with his speed, getting into the backfield and disrupting passing plays. Not sure how many sacks he registered in the preseason, but he definitely went after the QB well.

On running downs though, he tends to get engulfed by the linemen and is not nearly as effective when called upon to shed blocks and protect his gaps because he at this point lacks the strength, technique and the experience. Said this, I was disappointed that the Pats cut him because I thought that he had shown enough to get scooped up on waivers by another team. He needs work though.

Pretty much what Wotan saw...I thought Rogers got a bit better at setting the edge as the preseason went on...he'll likely work out better in Wade Phillip's version of the 3-4 which is more of a one-gap, penetrating/blitz disruptive defense vs. New England's two-gap, control the line-of-scrimmage defense. It's interesting that you say you're thin at OLB, it explains why Wade would jump on Rogers so quickly. Best of luck to the kid.

jmac, this is important and it's imperative that you get this information to the Cowboys front office ASAP:
This pickup is NOT Kenny Rogers. He doesn't slam camera men. I believe the team made a big mistake in signing this kid. This is Justin Rogers, a decent special teams player who needs his immediate release to return to his rightful team in New England.

Wade would be better off with Kenny! Now that's someone who could produce some football violence and drink some Lone Stars with Wade!

The only relevent info on Rogers (to me) is that by signing with the Cowboys he's dead to me now. If you cut him and we sign him to our practice squad we will welcome back into the family.
