RIVERS
What is the point of cutting him and re-signing him within 24 hours?

HERRON
Why? Is he really considered better than Mays?

if Herron is used as a true blocking FB, he is unique on the roster. Otherwise the move is mysterious. As far as Marcellus... Maybe Rivers was given the opportunity, out of respect for his veteran status, to find a better situation where he would be a full-time contributor. He tested the waters and realized the Pats were his best choice. Just a theory.

Don't you think the last couple roster slots are a revolving door anyway?
I expect us to resign Wesley after the first game or Darnell Bing S 220Lbs 6'2"
possibly

Does Herron have a first name, school, and year he was in the draft? Two threads mention Herron like everyone is suppose to know who this guy is. Well I'm sorry but I don't.

A productive linebacker with a good head for the ball in run defense, Herron has possibilities as a backup in a 34 alignment.

Biography:
Three-year starter who posted 79/7/2 as a senior, intercepting one pass and breaking up two more. Sophomore totals included a career-high 95 tackles.

Pos:

Tough, run-defending two-down linebacker. Flows to the action, wedges his way upfield and quickly filling gaps in run defense. Explosive at the point and quickly closes to the action.

Neg:

Does not play with great balance and is slow adjusting off the initial block. Not decisive in coverage, chases opponents down the field and possesses marginal ball skills.

haha, I was about to make a post EXACTLY the same as this, so thank you.

I didn't see anyone pickup on this so I restated it. Don't we save paying full salary if we cut by a certain date?

Quoting myself.

I'm not going to put it in all three threads, so somebody step up, please.

I can partially answer question 2. Mays sucks.

Rivers' contract would be negated once he was cut. He'd have to sign a new contract. Maybe it was more favorable. Maybe the Pats were looking to see if any other TE candidates became available after the cuts. Apparently, none did who were better, in their opinion. Best Player Available for their situation, I assume. I'm glad they have four TEs.

Herron is considered a better run-stopper than Mays, more of a bulky, Lua type who hits hard but has trouble in coverage. Mays could be solid in some coverages, but I haven't seen him take on any guards with much success.
