We currently are carrying 11 WR's, 6 on the 53, 3 on PUP and 2 on the PS. Clearly we don't need that many WR's.

If Caldwell, Gaffney or Washington were cut they would have been snapped up. By using the roster and PS like this a team needing a WR could be a good trading partner.

OTOH this could also mean Moss isn't as close as we hoped.

Re: WR Trade Soon?

Considering that two of our 6 WRs have been injured in camp, and that one is rumored to be on the cut/trade list I don't think we can say that we've got 6 healthy WRs ready to go

But yes, I do think there's a possibility of a WR trade this week - though realistically what are we talking about, gaining a 4th round pick?

I'll take depth through week 6 at this position when we'll have to make a decision about the PUPies rather than trade anyone at this point, though clearly there's value here.

I think a lot goes into the large number. Balancing the talent on the roster some older guys like brown moss... and younger guys like Chad Jack and CJ jones while keeping a good group of WRs. You need guys that can play now and guys that will develope. Plus a guy like troy and you have to get creative in how you keep them all.

I am sure if someone is willing to give us a good exchange we will consider trading somone. But the real reason for the numbers is so you make sure you keep the best ones. It would have sucked if cut caldwell or washington and the one we cut turned out to be the better of the 2. give it time im sure that number will slim down.

Re: WR Trade Soon?

I don't take the Moss trade cut stuff seriously. Why? because thee ones who would make that decision, BB/SP would say a word ro anyone. Just speculation IMO since Moss is a high profile star who is easy to build a story around to get attention.

Also we have the report from Reiss that Mos was seen going to praqctice with his pads on last week.

I think with so many wideouts, a trade IS more possible...when team's wideouts go down the team will be in a better position for a trade and having 2 on the PSqd and 2 on PUP only add depth. Also I think the wideouts some seem to have a history of injury...so...better to have depth.

There's no rush to make a trade.

Shouldn't trade value increase deeper into the season.
If we recieved a 5th for 1 or 2 of our spare wrs that would be great.

When did Reiss say Moss was seen going to practice in pads. I have heard others say this, but I went back and checked his blog and there appears to be nothing other than Moss wasn't at the media portion of practice. I thought it was a rumor circulating, but not substantiated.

More like a seventh, maybe conditinal to sixth is certain prodcution is met.

We gave a fourth for Stallworth, no one is giving a fourth for Gaffney, Washihngton or Caldwell, or Stallworth either given the balloon in his contract next year. I know there was a thread a while back talking about getting a second round pick for Gaffney, but that is just dumb.

IIRC it was Wensday or Thursday, I read it on this board first.

The trade deadline is Week 6 (someone correct me if I'm wrong) so we couldn't go too deep into the season.

10 WRs does seem excessive but also think about next season. Troy Brown will almost definately retire. Moss, Caldwell and Gaffney will be free agents. Stallworth and Washington will have large options to pick up to activate the rest of their deals. When you think of it that way, it's nice to have Childress and Jones (not to mention Chad Jackson) stashed away learning our system just in case we lose some of these guys.

I think we can get a 5th rounder as we paid that to Oakland last year for Gabriel. If Gaffney, Cadwell or Washington is traded it just makes space for the return of Brown,Seymour,Harrison and Chad Jackson.
