I'm curious when Practice Squads will start being announced. I hope Rogers and Elgin make it through. I'd also like to see Mills there as well if he's eligible.

Media reports are conflicting...

NOTES: The Raiders today are free to assemble a practice squad of up to eight players. All players cut Saturday have to clear waivers and can't be re-signed until 24 hours have elapse.

...

In other news, the Raiders cut O.J. (we hardly knew you) Santiago.

Shotwell said in a phone interview from Alameda that he was still hopeful to make the Raiders’ practice squad, which will be finalized at 9 a.m. today.

Practice squad players can start being signed at 6 pm Eastern, I believe.

Thanks. I'm really interested to see who the Patriots sign.

There's no contradiction there. The 24-hour rule applies to players being signed to active rosters.

Teams may begin establishing an 8-man practice squad at 12 PM EST today, or 9 AM PST, the timezone of that article (Oakland).

Great that's even better!

True. But, when you're on the PS. Any team can claim you and put you on their 53. I think their agents advise them to wait a coule of days before signing to a practice squad. In case they can make another teams 53.

The risk being that if they do not make another team's 53, the team that wanted them on the PS may fill up their squad, leaving them out in the cold...

Those two statements seem to be mutually contradictory--any team can sign a player off any PS, so why wait for the slim hope that you get signed to a 53?

Thanks, that makes sense. The gist of the article (especially the previous sentence which referred to PS) made it seem like it was referring to the practice squad and not active rosters...

While any team can claim a player on another team's practice squad, I don't know if the player is obliged to go. In the past, the Pats have paid some of their practice squad players a little extra to hold on to them. Billy Yates come to mind. Of course, most players will jump at the chance to be on the 53 man roster for a minimum of 3 games.

Yes, you are correct. I recall the Patriots once wanted to claim someone who was on Pittsburgh's practice squad and put him on the active roster and he elected to stay on the practice squad instead. I forget who it was. It was 8-10 years ago. The guy ended up doing nothing anyways.

Brian St. Pierre did the same thing a few years ago declining a chance to leave the Ravens practice squad to join the Steelers active roster (or was it the other way around)..He's bounced around the PS and active roster of both of those teams.....
