Rich Cimini has been the Daily News Jets beat writer since 1996. Prior to that, he covered the Jets for Newsday. A Syracuse University graduate, Cimini grew up in Lake Ronkonkoma, Long Island and attended Sachem High School.

I guess BB has a lot of faith in his, in his tackles and safeties, Still very unlike BB to make a comment like that.

Read the King exerpt again! Are you as reading comprehension-challenged as Cimini???????????

What is wrong with the NY State school system????????

Re: NY Daily News' Rich Cimini takes SI report out of context, makes up BB quote

Can any of you see BB taking time out of his schedule to rate players for SI, or more importantly say anything bad about the opposition?

I don't want to see anyone get fired, but I hope he does have to write an apologetic retraction.

Re: NY Daily News' Rich Cimini takes SI report out of context, makes up BB quote

I want to see him fired, sorry but if you refuse to put the time into your job, you are as bad as Ron Borges was for plagerizing. It would literally take him 5 seconds to do a check of the SI article to confirm the facts (I would have to guess he was told that BB said this from another person, no way hes stupid enough to read that and interpret what he wrote in the article) If he refuses to do the work he shouldn't be writing for the paper.

Can anyone picture Mike Reiss actually doing something like this? No chance.

It is so unlike Belichick to make a comment like that. It is so unlike Belichick that he actually didn't make that comment.

Is unlike Cimini to write an article on something he misread or is this the first time he looked like an idiot?

Cimini is a tool for sure, he is not known to make stuff up like this, but I would not put it past him.

We'll hear a lot of Belichick ball washing Rhodes this week - can reporters be fired for this crap ?

Theres really nothing left to uncover, he blatantly made it up. There is no middle ground here anymore.

Re: NY Daily News' Rich Cimini takes SI report out of context, makes up BB quote

This is insane to me. I think my mother, who probably watches 3-4 football games a year, knows that Belichick is a tight-lipped individual who would never say anything like this. It really makes me wonder how much out-of-context/fake reporting must go on elsewhere in the media that I wouldn't catch because it's not a subject I'm into as much as football.

It seems you don't understand what happened. Peter King put a hypothetical quote from Belichick in his article ranking Rhodes as a top safety, saying that he'd have Rhodes ranked there "EVEN IF" Belichick told him that Rhodes wouldn't make the Pats. The conversation never happened.

Let's be clear: Cimini is quoting a conversation that never existed.

Let alone making an unsolicited phone call to complain about some arbitrary rankings made by one of the biggest idiots in the national market. Let alone making those particular beefs regarding the team that NE opens up against and faces twice this year.

Cimini must be some kind of tool.

This is where that so-called quote came from.

As I crisscrossed America, getting input from those NFL sources, I kept reworking the list. Kuharich, for example, wanted me to move Seahawks tackle Walter Jones from 10 into the top five, thought I had Donovan McNabb way too low at 91 and felt I was too enamored of Drew Brees at 8. "But it's your list," he said. "The great thing about it is, it's not wrong." (I kept Jones at 10 and Brees at 8, but I moved McNabb up to 72 because a cacophony of voices told me he was too low.) I decided I wouldn't make a significant change unless at least two people whose judgment I trusted could make persuasive arguments. Most told me I was loony to have Rhodes ranked in the 20s and Bills tackle Jason Peters in the 30s. I believe Rhodes comes closest to Ed Reed (12), the best impact safety in the game, and I believe Peters, a converted tight end, will be an All-Pro within two years. So I wouldn't move them down even if Bill Belichick called and said, "Neither of those guys could make my team."

People need to link him to this thread.

I just did. BTW, I think Tomase does a very good job and is getting even better.

In his defense, he was merely saying that Cimini was reportiing it and that it was "fathomable" that BB would ever say such a thing.

I agree, I don't mind Tomase, I mean, why would he even look to assume the facts are wrong? He can't think that a writer would be that irresponsible. I don't blame him for making the post.

Tomase wisely taken his posting down.

The only trash talking from BB I remember have been the FredEX stuff after winning SB 39 ("He's terrible, and you can quote me on that.") and the tongue-in-cheek remarks about Chad Johnson last year, which part of a fun back-and-forth the two had leading up to the game.

So: further proof Cimini is ignorant, a liar, or both.
