Personally, I think this years Pats team believes that a punter who can kick with precision and accuracy is of far greater value than a guy who can boom punts. Why? because you gotta figure that this years Pats offense will be moving the chains with consistant regularity meaning our punter will likely be asked to pin our opponents inside the 20 with precision punting out of bounds or with high hang times much more than he'll be asked to boom us out of bad field position with a 70 yard missile.

Very possible. They put in a waiver claim on another punter before they were awarded Hansen, so I have to conclude they were not interested in Hanser pper se but rather that they had decided to get rid of Baugher. I suspect the reasons might have gone beyond anything we saw on the field.

The last one wasn't downed per se, it was angled out of bounds and was still in the air when it went out. That's another skill BB would like, so I think Hansen makes it.

I was in section 238 and that punt was headed almost directly at me. It was quite cool to see. Wish I had realized what would happen, I'd have pulled out my camera before the play.

As far as the Australian boomer guy, Roca, the fullbacks in Rugby and Aussie Rules (i.e. the equivalent of US football punters) are typically very good at situational kicks. You gain ground in these sports by kicking toward the sideline either directly when you're backed up, or when you're closer to midfield it has to bounce first in the field of play before going out of bounce. Also, if you kick the ball into/through the end zone, it's the other team's ball at the 22 yard line, so the guys like Roca will try to get the ball as close to the end zone as possible.

Career 42 yard gross, 38 yard net. Philly's 42 yard net last year was good for 23rd best in the NFL.

They are 2 completely different sports. lol....


I don't understand why the patrios, or more NFL teams for that matter, look at more Rugby or AFL (Aussie rules) players....

In AFL, the whole principle of the game is accuracy in kicking. It is a 100m big oval and some players can kick in 60 meters and withing a 5 square meter zone. The rest of the players can kick it 50.

The only issue is the transition to wearing pads. But an Australian football player would be a great project.

The other issue is money, it is very likely that a punter earns more than most of hte top tier of AFL or rugby players.
