All jokes aside I thought this would get peoples attention with learning that Asante is pretty much free to walk after this season.

Leaving only Ellis Hobbs, Eddie Jackson, Mike Richardson, maybe Tory James as true cornerbacks.

This is a scary weakness that we need to address obviously through the draft but why not lock up one of the guys who was home raised knows the system yes he's brittle and hasn't been healthy but he is now he's still young and started in a superbowl for us.

I say Beoli should approach Randall very soon offer an incentive laden contract earning him anywhere from 1.5 to 3 million a year depending on how he performs.

It's never to early to think about the future I would appreciate peoples thoughts on Randall's worth to this team and how he stacks up as a player thank you.

I'd like us to extend Gay but I wouldn't say it's scary, we have Hobbs, a FA period and two #1s - plenty of amunition to take care of it if Samuel and Gay are both gone.

I guess thats why Merriweather has been at corner.

They looked at him at CB. No doubt about it.

Sure but for depth/cross training, etc, I don't think they were looking at him as a full time CB. But if he's going to play the Nickel Back at times he needs to work on CB skills.

In case Samuel decided not to come back until week 10. It only made sense just in case.

When Samuel returned the other day Meriweather was back with the safeties.

I just think since we can 90 percent agree Assante will give himself to the highest bidder regardless the team, It would be a solid move to lock up Randall Gay who just the start of this season visited the Jets since he was a restricted free agent.

And if Samuel gets hurt in the first game he plays?

They looked at him at CB. Now they are looking at him at S.

I do not wish to argue that he will play CB or S in the future. Belichick may not know that yet.

I don't think they ever looked at him as a LONG TERM CB. CB for nickel ? Yes. CB in a pinch ? Yes. Full time, preferred position ? I don't think so.

They've tried Wilson at CB in practice and used him as the nickel back but never used him as an outside CB. Seeing BM at CB in PS games wasn't encouraging.

No replica Gay jerseys at the Proshop boooooo

HOLY CRIPES!! When I first saw the title I thought it said
"Hey,Hey We Are Gay"

Thought I mistakenly went to one of 'THOSE OTHER' website forums ((not that there is anything wrong with that  ))

That is funny your not that there's anything wrong with that reminded me of this hilarious Seinfeld episode.

Yep Seinfeld it was from - I have all 8 seasons of his series on DVD which IMO was the best sitcom in the history of TV - Can't wait till season 9 and the final season 10 come out.

Maybe some day we will see a TV show with some kind of George Costanza character as an executive in the Patriots FO

Lock up Randall Gay if he's still looking good (and healthy) toward the end of this season - 3 or 4 years. I wouldn't be at all surprised.

I really like Blue and hope we resign him. He developed into a good CB a lot faster then Asante or Ellis and if he didn't get hurt those two years, we might be in a whole different situation. Gay is a stud CB. All the people that lay the injury crap on him should just shut up. Pats will do the right thing and resign Gay and give him more than 1.5 to 3 mil because he will be worth more. Asante might get another "fair" offer as well next year, but he might want to go elsewhere. Who knows.

A lot of IFs in those statements. If Gay can be extended then I would consider it, he isn't going to break the bank but he is not without his question marks. Calling him a 'Stud CB' seems a little strong and ignoring those 'injury concerns' is also foolish (High School injuries, College injuries, NFL injuries, seems like a pattern).

Personally I think he is an injury prone 3rd CB who is a little over rated. His claim to fame is playing in the Superbowl. He did ok in the game but TO still ended up with 120+ yards with a bum leg so I wouldn't exactly say he shut him down.

I see Merriweather as the FS of the future (maybe even this year), he may play some CB this year but only as a 4th or 5th option. The depth chart at CB for 08 is pretty poor, it would have been nice to draft a day 1 CB this year to help protect the team next year but we have 5 day 1 picks in 08 so we will see how it goes.

08 Players CB under contract
Hobbs
Eddie Jackson - or whoever the hell he is? coming off a major knee injury
Richardson on IR

FAs
Samuel
Scott
James
Randall Gay

I think you'll eventually see Meriweather at CB along with Hobbs.

Brandon actually started out as a CB at The U.

From what I have seen of him down at the OB, he can cover. Granted, that's college and this is the NFL, but instaincts are instincts and he can be coached up.

Also, don't forget Chad Scott coming back next season.
