Man, the former Patriots are dropping like flies and it's only the first round of cuts.

Houston Texans: The Texans released Patrick Pass and placed Charles Spencer on the physically unable to perform list to get down to the limit of 75 players.

Pass, a fullback, was signed a few days into camp after the Texans lost two players to injuries. He spent the first seven years of his career with New England, where he appeared in 75 games with 11 starts. Along with playing fullback, he also returned kicks and played special teams for the Patriots.

Spencer, the 6-foot-4, 352-pound left tackle, hasn't played since breaking his leg in Week 2 of last season. By placing him on the physically unable to perform list instead of the injured reserve, he could still play this season.

"He's making some progress, doing some good things," coach Gary Kubiak said. "I think it's still a pretty long shot that he plays this year, but who knows. Let's see what happens."

Information from The Associated Press was used in this report.

Re: Patrick Pass released by Texans

Shadow roster candidate if there ever was one.

Re: Patrick Pass released by Texans

We're now up to Pass, Terrell, Dwight, Farris, Wiggins, Musinski, A. Stokes, and Gabriel all cut in the past two days.

Re: Patrick Pass released by Texans

I doubt that Charlie Weis will offer Pass a coaching gig.

Re: Patrick Pass released by Texans

Holy Crap, this guy is in a downward spiral... he played a role here, might be picked up by another team.

Re: Patrick Pass released by Texans

Have Deion Branch hat will travel.

And OG Nick Steitz, UDFA signee by the NEP in 2005, and assigned to NFLE in 06, was released by the 49ers.

If Hochstein is IR'ed, or is at least a no-go for the near future, then our interior OL depth becomes waffer-thin. I hope that Ross Tucker is on speed-dial.

Re: Patrick Pass released by Texans

Cedric Cobbs released by the Broncos too. If that counts for anything.

I laugh at most of the "shadow roster" declarations here, but this one is clearly the case if we have enough injuries.

Anyone know what the shadow roster limit is? :)

Thats why they're not Pats anymore. You know? Just proves that our staff really knows what they're doing.

Re: Patrick Pass released by Texans

did he ever have the bullet removed from his leg?

Falcons IR Amare Lowe.

Seahawks cut Andy Stokes.

Where will all this carnage end?

Re: Patrick Pass released by Texans

Add Bethel to that list. Was just cut by the Texans as well.

Re: Patrick Pass released by Texans

Add Tyrone Poole to that list. Also just cut by Texans.

I would be very surprised if Pass was a "shadow roster" candidate. In fact, I think its more likely that the Pats would bring back Corey Dillon than they would Patrick Pass. BB never really liked the guy... And it took the Pats cutting him one year to get his act together...

Anyways, I think that with Quinton Smith on the practice squad and Corey on speed dial, it would have to take a major catastrophe for the Pats to consider Pass.

How do you figure that the interior depth becomes wafer thin? They would still have Yates, Elgin and Mruczkowski there. Yates is a lot better than people give him credit for. Elgin moved past Mruczkowski, from what I saw and should do well if the Pats can keep him on the team.

Good news for you, Cap'n!
'Skins released Tucker day before yesterday.

As frankiesfly says,
the failure rate elsewhere of those whom Piolichick release
is testimony to the acumen of the Patriots' front office.

I'll say:
at least as much, or more, than the success rate of those we try on.

Re: Patrick Pass released by Texans

Bethel Johnson couldn't stick with the Texans either, though I don't think that's worthy of its own thread, so I just figured I'd post it here
