I think BB and the coaches are keeping Moss out of the preseason for basically what can be some of many reasons including...

1) Randy still has a bit of a hamstring injury that was not severe enough to have put him on the PUP list but is dangerous if he was to play in one of these meaningless preseason games and could have reinjured it.

2) If there is one receiver on this team who can go out on week 1 and still put up big receiving numbers despite not being heard from in august, its Randy Moss and his talent speaks for itself so why risk it and a reinjury just so the fans can see the 'new guy and big name player' early.

3) Everyone knows Randy is going to be the #1 guy at WR so keep him off the field during these games and have the other guys fight for the remaining 4or 5 WR spots,If Randy was out there then that would mean less time for the other many WRs to show what they can provide as a playmaker in this offense,The big cuts are getting close by and the more time BB sees the close competition between the 'on the bubble' WRs fighting for the last few spots below Moss,Stallworth and Welker (who are locks) the better looks he will have as to decide who stays or goes.

4) BB does not want to see the media circus at every preseason game or workout,He knows the circus will be officially in town on September 9th - No Moss in action ?- Less Circus and less attention on the team media-wise which I think he likes but knows the quiet won't be for long once Randy hits the field which I can almost guarantee is September 9th.

Is this logic thinking on my behalf or am I a madman?

Half and half...Firstly omce Moss practiced he is NOT eligible for the PUP list. Does anyone even know what that stands for?? Physically Unable to Perform...THAT is a status OF a player coming into camp MEANING because of an injury or some situation he is NOT 100% ready to practice and thus PUP. Once a player practices PUP for that player is bye bye. It is ONLY available to players that are not ready. NOT to any player injured AT practice.
So ONE is DONE and???
2---Makes some sense..the injury is there so why NOT be sure it is not made worse. TWO you DO.
3----I really don't think keeping out some, giving others a chance is a real reason. CoachB wishes to see the best players on the field in action so the offense and defense can get into full swing. Keeping a player off ro see another makes no sense. THREE is up a TREE.
4----I don't think a media circus is something the Coach cares about. Keeping a player away from that? Why? Hardly a reason to keep him way from the field. you gonna do that for 16 games?? FOUR gets the DOOR.
I really think it's an injury thing..and being sure it does NOT get worse..plus I really do NOT think the Coach cares about getting all parts in motion to be on film, esp for the Jets and Chargers. There may be a surprise factor in teh first game. The fact that injuries play into it is fine. As far as injuries go..he kept Branch off the field in 4 preseason games I think because he wished he
did NOT get injured..so??? Would NOT be the first time he has done it. people forget the Twig was really one who was not durable. I think that less the case here, but BB wishes to make sure.

It's all speculation, but my guess is that he has a strained hamstring. Period.

Well, you probably are a madman, but..........

Logic is pretty solid from where I sit (aside from the PUP list, since he's not eligeble). I also do think he tweaked a grade 1 hammy too. Best thing for it is a few weeks rest, which he got. As for why it's stretched from 2-3 weeks to 3-4 is probably BB being over protective of WITHOUT QUESTION the most talented reciever he's ever given Brady.

He's no spring chicken at 30. Been through many camps and knows the drill. He's a fast learner (least that what said), and he's talented enough to learn on the fly. BB saw enough in the first week to understand that Moss and Brady will be fine together, and he could focus on the other guys. It's all pretty logical.

I never saw not being there as especially troubling. If it come to early next week and he's still not there, I'll begin to worry. Til then, I'm convinced Moss will be fine.

IMO my #3 possibility of why Moss is MIA does make some sense if you consider that this is the most talented and deep WR corps BB has ever had for any team he has ever been a part of - The time he has to make difficult decisions on who to keep and who to dump can be made a bit easier if the guys he has on the bubble play more often,If Moss was in there the bubble guys would see less action - BB knows Moss will be his top guy whether he played in august or not,I am sure he is not yet quite finished with the bottom 2 or 3 guys he wants and probably is a bit undecided yet until week 4 of the preseason is done,I do not expect a WR cut before then.

The race for the final 2 or 3 spots between Caldwell,Gaffney and Washington are very close and it may take this last game to decide what he will keep at the bottom rung of the WR ladder.

Maybe they want to confound the Jets? :p

Moss reminds me a little bit of Marcus Dupree, who some old timers will remember.

Marcus is the only RB I ever saw who could show up with a beer gut and absolutely dominate. Had he ever bothered to keep himself in shape and wasn't a head case, he would be in the HOF by now.

Moss is similar in that while he doesn't have a beer gut, he could sit on his ass all winter eating twinkies and come in and be really, really good. I would classify TO as being that way as well. Both are unique in their freakish athletic ability.

Moss doesn't need to practice and he doesn't need to play in pre-season games.

This is the Iverson "I am too good to practice" thread...except it's not from Moss...but from a fan..that water is getting around to many!!

I'd agree with most of those as valid points (other than PUP), but I doubt BB thought about anything other than his hammy strain.

There is way too much of an obsession with QB-WR chemistry on this board. Its obviously important, but people went crazy last year.

I'm not saying that it wasn't more important last year. When you have no dominant reciever, of course its incredibly important that every route and movement is perfect, because the QB is going to be threading needles.

With Moss, we have someone who could theoretically be one of the best WRs in the league. His communication seems fine with Brady from practice and OTAs, but more importantly, even without all the work together, I'm sure Brady could find Moss if he started game 1. When you have a reciever who can go up and get the ball and has a history of dominating DBs, the QB-WR comfort level improves instantly, requiring less time working on their connection.

Don't put me in the camp that thinks him being out for TC and preseason is a good thing; just don't get too carried away comparing him to Caldwell developing his connection with Brady last training camp.

That's the kind of wild speculation that gives these boards a bad name.:p

I think they are probably being overly cautious with him. There is little to gain playing him in preseaosn games. Practice would be nice though.
BB held Branch out of an entire preseason a few years back because he was fragile. This may be a case where they know what Moss can do, and dont want to rush him back to reaggrivate it. 100% or the season starts, whichever comes first. Since practices open to the public ended a week ago, its not ridiculous to think he is pracitcing under the radar.

Very well said AJ and probably accurate

Contrast how BB has handled Moss' injury sideline situation vs how The Tuner handled the circus that was TO on the sidelines in last summer's camp

I think we have Bingo. I'll only add the appropriate caution of preventing further injury. It's just not worth the risk ala LT.

I believe the news will come out shortly, so there's no reason for me to withhold this information any longer. Randy was asked a few weeks ago to consult with and counsel Alberto Gonzales as he considered the emotionally wrenching decision he announced yesterday. Now, it will take Randy a few days to get back into playing shape, but in the end, he'll be on the roster and active early in the season. I'm sure you'll begin to hear this report soon on the network news, but until now, it's been off the record, on the QT, and very hush, hush!

Yes, I remember him. From the USFL team Breakers

Everything needs to be a conspiracy around here.

It is simple - he hurt his hamstring.
It isn't 100% healed.
