Saw the Wiggins thread, and thought I'd post some news on another ex-Pat.

JETS CUT TIM DWIGHT
by Michael David Smith

The Jets announced today that they were releasing several players, including wide receiver/kick returner Tim Dwight, who had been on the Physically Unable to Perform list.

Even if he were fully healthy, Dwight, who joined the Jets last year, may have been expendable because the Jets have an abundance of guys who can play the slot receiver and return kicks. Dwight is 32 years old and heading in his 10th NFL season, and it's possible that his career is over.

"This is tough no matter who it is. It's hard to tell someone they're not making the team," Jets coach Eric Mangini said. "Tim, having a relationship and knowing him for a while, knowing the type of person he is, the character he has, it's always that much more difficult."

The Jets also released defensive end Darrell Adams, defensive tackle Zarnell Fitch, running back Tony Hollings, cornerback Rayshaun Kizer, wide receiver Dante Ridgeway, offensive lineman Nick Smith and wide receiver Juan Wong. The Jets have now reached tomorrow's mandatory limit of 75 active roster players.

"The New England Patriots announced today that they have added Tim Dwight to their shadow roster."

[After all, Tim Dwight - [some speed] + [LOTS of durability] = Wes Welker.]

Wes Welker is MUCH MUCH better in the slot and in kick returns/punts!!!!

I'm pretty sure that the shadow roster at slot receiver/PR reads like this:

Brown, Troy

Jimmy Farris was also cut by the Jags today.

I think you reversed that, your equation says that Welker is faster than Dwight but less durable :)

(you wrote Tim Dwight = Wes Welker + Speed - Durability which means Welker has to lose Speed and gain Durability for both sides to be equal).

However you want to set up the equation, what I was trying to say is the reverse (start with Tim Dwight, take away some of his speed, and give him more durability; the resulting player will be Wes Welker).

If he's healthy, I think Dwight hooks on somewhere. He produces in the areas he's used and is a short term answer for a team deficient in those areas.

Problem always is "If he's healthy"

I liked Tim Dwight a LOT when he was on this team. We have absolutely no use for him, but I hope he gets picked up somewhere.

Yeah I know, I was just being an ass.

Like others I liked Dwight - but not for this team now.

I would not be surprised to see the Pats pick up Dwight, nor would I be surprised to see the Jets pick up one of the players cut by the Pats. Just for the sake of seeing what they can learn about there opponets (audibles etc,).

I can't see us picking up Dwight. We already have a pretty tough decision to make at WR. Do we cut Caldwell or Washington? Do we carry six WRs? Dwight will only complicate things. Both Caldwell and Washington have more upside at this point than Dwight.

Maybe if Dwight was cut next week. We might pick him up for a week just to get any insight on the Jets' gameplan. But he was cut before teams typically start working on week one. That work usually starts today.

Bummed for Dwightning... always did like him, but there's no way we bring him in to join our 23-member receiving corps.
