If neither Dave Thomas or Kyle Brady are ready, we probably should have Mills on the 53 man roster.

Who you gonna cut for him though? The roster is already insanely tight.

agreed

You would cut a guy least likely to be picked up (GLLPU), then you could IR a guy (not for season). A GLLPU could be a developmental rookie not able to help someone else right away (Rogers), or an aging vet unlikely to play for anyone else (Vinny, Junior).

Gaffney has been our best receiver since playoffs and throughout TC until injured. I don't think he gets cut.

I don't agree. Welker has been our best receiver in TC. And last year doesn't matter.

Does anyone know exactly WHAT is injured on Gaffney? Is he on crutches?

From everything the team has released and what reporters witnessed:

"leg"

What has Mills shown that he deserves to be on this roster? To my mind he is Klecko on offense no set position, not size enough to be a TE & has really shown nothing else, unable to even stay on the field. The potential was there but at this point nothing has shown. I think he goes his best chance is the PS.

We need to have three active TE's. Mills has shown that he can actually block.

I think his play in the last game indicated that he could be an effective backup fullback. Unless Dave Thomas is ready to play, I don't think the Pats have anyone else better than him for that role. If Evans goes down, do the Pats just throw away their 2 back sets?

He is clearly on the bubble. I thought the same thing as PatPatriot he was lined up as the blocking back in several short yardage situations (with Evans as the ball carrier). The fact that they are giving him these looks is encouraging.

In any case he is such a fringe player, his skillset can easily be replaced. If he makes it, good for him. If he doesn't then so be it.

IR is for the season. Once your there, your done....

Only true if IR before hte roster cut down. If you make the 53, you can return from IR.

Huh? You had better check your source :)

No one returns from IR. I think you are thinking of PUP, where you get to come back between week 6 an 10. If your put on IR during the season, your done.

Why bother putting Mills on the IR?

I don't think he is some super hot property that 30 teams are lining up to signn. If he makes the team great, if not cut him and see if he can be signed to the practice squad. It is not like he is going to another team and be simply dominant (I sure this will come back to bite me).

I hope he makes it. Why would he get cut instead of a guy like Rivers? I thought Rivers was just a jag. Just because he has a catch for a TD and an couple of nice blocks, people want to keep him over Mills.

Mills is only in his first real year. He was thrown on IR early (probably against his wishes) and it doesn't seem fair to the kid to just toss him out the door like that. He's not getting a fair shake! I just don't see the Pats cutting Mills, a fourth rounder, and keeping a jag like Rivers.

Fair, that is so funny.

This thread's life should be over. Kyle brady practiced today.
