BRIGGS' LAMBORGHINI FOUND CRASHED, ABANDONED

WSCR radio in Chicago reports that a black Lamborghini owned by Bears linebacker Lance Briggs has been found crashed and abandoned.

Briggs reportedly was seen running from the scene of the one-car accident.

Though we don't know whether Illinois law imposes hit-and-run liability for a one-car crash (and we invite any members of the Illinois bar to let us know what the rule is there), Briggs' motivation to leave the scene was greater than was his desire to remain with a car that costs slightly more than the average horseless carriage.

A Lamborghini. I wonder what comprehensive car insurance costs for a vehicle like that. Perhaps Briggs was simply scared about his rates going up and was rushing off to call Geico.

Thanks to the new "Don't Drink and Drive" commercials, Briggs was completely uninjured in the crash, cushioned by the 500 gallons of Jack Daniels filling his Lamborghini to just below his chin.

Lance thinks that it's better to run home and play stupid or make up a lie after crashing your car, rather than staying there and getting a DUI.

the penalty will be less severe since there will be no way to prove that Lance was drinking and driving (which im sure he was).

It is generally a crime to leave the scene of accident where there has been property damage.

I'm not sure, but I would imagine the penalties parallel, or exceed, those of DUI in order to deter just this type of conduct.

Only if he damaged someone else's property. He doesn't have to make an insurance claim if he decides to pay to have his car fixed. As far as he's concerned, while he probably broke the law and is a moron for drinking and driving, he made the right move considering what he has to lose by getting a DUI.

but i think Lance might believe that a DUI might be more severe NFL penalty than leaving the scene. For example, Lance may think a DUI is an 8 game suspension but leaving the scene is only 6 games.

And we can't forget the possibility that Lance could be a complete moron.

I had the same thought. For all the idiocy of (allegedly ) driving a $200k automobile while impaired, running scared may well have been a smart move.

Not really. If he did no harm to anyone or there property he will not get in to much trouble.

You may be right. It doesn't make legal sense that someone should be able to avoid a DUI in this way without receiving a similar penalty, though.

As someone else has said, it worked pretty good for Ted Kennedy. I can remember other politicians pulling this stunt as well over the years. Once safely home or stashed away somewhere while the body clears out the drugs/booz, you can make up all kinds of stuff.

If you are drunk or wasted and you crash your car, the safest thing you can do is run from the scene, especially when it is a one car crash with only you in the vehicle. Also helps when you are insanely rich. Of course, most of us wouldn't get ourselves into that situation in the first place.

Seriously, they say that the police are looking for him, I hope that he did not get thrown from the vehicle, or worse taken from his vehicle. Remember what happened to Innis Cosby, he got killed because he was a young black man driving an expensive car, and the POS illegal alien thought he was a drug dealer and tried to rob him and ended up killing him.
