Re: Asante in Camp Tomorrow

Awesome. Nice scoop by projo.

Re: Asante to be in camp tomorrow

I wonder how long those dreads will be.

Re: Asante to be in camp tomorrow

Whi'te it's definitely good news, I'm still not sure how I feel about it. On a side note, it's hard to believe he'll be ready to start in one week. I see him coming in as a nickle/dime. Just my 2 cents worth.

Re: Asante to be in camp tomorrow

The funny thing is that Sports Extra just reported that Samuel has no intention of ending his hold out any time soon. I guess any show that employs Borges can't be trusted.

Re: Asante to be in camp tomorrow

It just says "source close to the cornerback confirmed tonight". I don't see this anywhere else although I haven't looked everywhere. I'll believe it tomorrow.

Re: Asante to be in camp tomorrow

I'm seeing more and more news outlets picking up the story now, but I won't fully feel at ease until he actually shows up tomorrow.

Cornerback Asante Samuel will report to Gillette Stadium this morning, ending his de facto holdout, a source close to the player confirmed last night.

When Samuel arrives, which is expected to be prior to the team’s 8 a.m. meeting, he will sign the one-year, $7.79-million franchise tender and prepare for his fifth NFL season.

The 26-year-old left his Florida home last night to fly to Boston. He has missed 31 days of training camp, though he has not amassed any fines because he was not under contract.

Anticipated that Assante would not pass up all that cash, the question will be can he be ready for September 9...

Re: Asante to be in camp tomorrow

Unless the news report includes witnessing a public signing of the offer, or includes eyewitness sighting on the practice field, I think the word "scoop" COULD explain the whole story.

Everyone wants to be first: first to say he reports, first to say that guy is wrong (i.e., will not return any time soon,) etc. Evidently two news sources both feel their evidence is sufficient to report their points of view as fact, although these two points of view are incompatible.

Like someone else says, believe it when you see it.

(Which of course could be later this [Monday] morning.)

Re: Asante to be in camp tomorrow

I hope it is true....and nOT a scoop that is just a guess....heard last night something about "what's the rush"...or something like that...which I hope was wrong. He needs to be in camp getting ready...If true good news..

Re: Asante to be in camp tomorrow

So ... fellow head coaches-in-waiting ...
does he see the field at all Thursday night?

If so, doing what? And for how long?

Report: Samuel arrives
By Mike Reiss, Globe Staff
Cornerback Asante Samuel will rejoin the Patriots this morning at Gillette Stadium, the Providence Journal reported in its Monday editions.

The report indicates that Samuel, who flew into town from Fort Lauderdale Sunday night, will sign his $7.79 million tender offer.

Coach Bill Belichick is scheduled to hold an 11:15 a.m. press conference today, and the media will have access to the locker room and a portion of practice after that. This is a story we'll be following throughout the day.

we'll find out at the press conference. 11:15. BB may have a smile on this morning

Count Asante as one of only a handful of players who selflessly accepts a meager yearly salary of 7.79 million for the good of the team!! (tough firmly in cheek)

Great news, perfect timing, I bet the Jets gameplan gets installed today. Two weeks to prepare, he should be fine. Assuming Seymour, Warren, and K. Brady, are all healthy for game #1. This team will be very hard to beat.

Totally agree with your post.
The addition of Samuel makes the backfield suddenly one of the deepest in the NFL. This team overall, at virtually every position, might be one of the deepest ever....Only linebacker seems a bit shallow, but that's even hard to say with the fifth guy being Junior Seau.

Woo hoo welcome back Asante! Nice birthday present for me!
